A small semi-SV

Recommended Posts

I've been on a plateau for a while, hovering around the 200 mark. So I thought I'd check my BMI to see how I was doing... at 29.5, I am officially overweight, no longer obese! After being very heavy for years and years, it's a small victory I'll gladly take. I know, it's just as silly to get hung up on BMI numbers as on scale numbers, but see http://www.prevention.com/bmicalculator/0,5766,s1-2-0-0-1476-1,00.html if you want to check your stats.

I recently learned that I have a giant fibroid about the size of a grapefruit. Looking at the bright side -- at least this explains why my belly is still so far from flat! And I should lose a pound or two if it's removed. Not the way I wanted to succeed in the summer weight-loss challenge, but . . .

Has anyone else here had fibroid trouble? Not little ones, but big honkin' mamas? What did you do? I find out my options next week.

Congratulations, Zoe! That's not a small v, that's a BIG V!! Wow, to be overweight. What a dream. :D

I just calculated my own BMI based on this morning's weight. It's 31.3. Holy sh*t!! I haven't really done that in a while so it's astonishing to see how low it is after being 45+ for years and years. I'm gonna cry!

Can't help you with the fibroids, though you have my deepest sympathy. Yikes, a grapefruit? Can you feel it from the outside with your fingers? Brrrr...

Wow! Officially overweight! That's great work. It makes me laugh, but great work.

Can't help with the big fibroid though.

Only those of us who've been seriously large know exactly what you mean! :D Congrats on your own significant loss, A.

No one has ever called me a skinny little thing before, Christina (much less called my butt "little," Paula) -- thanks! Good thing you can't see me!

Yes, and here's proof that I am an idiot: I have felt a hard lump in my lower belly for a couple of months, and (even though I had a huge ovarian cyst removed nine years ago and should know better) I figured it was a normal part of my anatomy that I couldn't feel before because it was covered in a lot of fat. The doc rolled her eyes when I told her.

OK, since I started this V thread, I should also mention that I have achieved one of my goals from last year: I now weigh less than my four brothers. This is partly because they're all getting heavier, but I'll take it!

Zoe,

Congrats on that, one of my goals is to weigh less than hubby. LOL He is heavier now than he was a couple of years ago when I lost alot of weight, so figure I have better chances :D.

As for fibroids...I have them, at one time my uterus was at 4-5 month pregnancy size. They can either remove them (but they will most likely "regrow", you can have a hysterectomy (which my doc said I'm too young for even though I don't plan to have more children) or you can go on birth control if you arent' already on it. I do this in cycles at the moment (which doesn't make it effective for birth control). I don't like the moodiness I get with the birthcontrol is the reason i do this though. Anyway birthcontrol doesn't get rid of them but they will usually shrink them, and make them dormant while on birthcontrol. When you go off of birthcontrol though they will slowly start to grow again. Fibroids aren't really dangerous, but they can be painful, espcially during montlhlys. It's about time for me to do the birth control cycle thing again, but trying to hold off unitl after lapband so I don't have to worry about missing pills in the hostpital and such. From what my doctor says alot of women have fibroids but don't actually have symptoms, or they are small and aren't discovered. Fibroids can contribute to inferetility and early miscarriages.

Who would of thought all us crazy women, we'd be celebrating just being overweight instead of obese huh? LOL

Great Job Zoe, fantastic news!

That's a big SV in my book :D

Hey, I can understand that indeed. I've felt weird lumps and bumps that only later do I realize are actually bones or muscle. It's truly weird feeling our skeletons emerge from under their blankets! Tell your doctor you have many friends who could easily have done the same thing. Guess we're all idiots, then. :D

WHAT A GREAT FEELING THAT IS!!! Congratulations on this one, too. My brother has ALWAYS been the skinny one, and even though he grew to 6'5" I've outweighed him since we were in grade school. Well, guess who has like 60 pounds on me now? HAH!!

Nothing like stickin' it to the bros, huh?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
