Jami Victoria 0 Posted October 13, 2008 Hi there! I am 6 months post-op (down 52 pounds!!) and I have found out that I am B12 defiencent..big time! I took my supplements, but I still have the tell-tale sign with the red stripe down my tongue, dizziness and very tired. I feel like the only person out there that ended up this way and I actually feel guilty! I know that my sound strange, but now I'm afraid. Has/Is anyone else going through this right now and have any advice for me? I haven't gone to the doc yet, but I have a feeling that I may be going soon for B12 shots?? I'd appreciate anyone's experiences. Thanks!!
mv031161 0 Posted October 13, 2008 I havent experienced that yet....I actually just went to the mirror to look at my tongue just in case. My op was on 8/27 so maybe it is too early? BTW,...i am taking the Centrum Cardio Multivitamin/multimineral which lowers my cholesterol as well and has a good B12 content. My MD said it was OK to continue taking this. Which B12 are you taking? Problably they are not dissolving properly in your system and you just flushing them........I'll stay away from anything other than Centrum specially away from those Vitamins you can get at Wallmart/Sam's/Costco, etc..... Jami Victoria 0 Posted October 13, 2008 I am taking Nature's Bounty sublingual B12 Complex- the liquid B12. That was what the dietician suggested before I had the surgery.
Willowglen 5 Posted October 13, 2008 I am taking Bariactric fusion which is a flavored chewable that includes viatamins, Calcium and B12 all in one tab. I take two in the morning and two in the afternoon. They were recommended by my doctor. Bariatric Fusion - Post gastric bypass surgery nutrition created by a bariatric surgery team. aubrie 6 Posted October 13, 2008 I use Bariatric Advantage Multi-Vitamin. they are chewable and come in flavors. I have the watermelon. they don't taste so hot, but they are a very good Vitamin. My surgeon approved them when I took them in to him. they are VERY high in B-12. They are specifically designed for lap banders.
betrthnever 107 Posted October 14, 2008 Just you see your Dr. Could be signs of other problems
vayiayia 1 Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) I'm not banded yet, but I have been giving myself inter-muscular B-12 shots for 5 years. Actually, my husband gives me the shot in my deltoid muscle. My doctor gives me a 1 year refillable script plus needles. It's covered by most insurances. I take two shots weekly. Ask your gastro or primary care doc to write you a script. Considering that you are B-12 deficient, your doc shouldn't have issue with the request. Edited October 17, 2008 by vayiayia
Willowglen 5 Posted October 17, 2008 There is also a B12 prescription that can be taken nasally(mist) once a week
JamieNP 20 Posted October 17, 2008 You can get sublingual B12 in large doses. I have 5000 mcg. They dissolve under the tongue.

I believe they still have the strawberry and Cinnamon too and they are just as good. You can view their website at www.trivita.com. Hope this helps!
