What about sweet tea???

Recommended Posts

I know there are some southerners out there who love sweet tea! I've been a diet soda drinker for the most part over the last few years, and when I switched to diet sodas I cut out sweet tea since it's got so much sugar in it. Well, now they've got Splenda, and since I'm being banded I won't be able to have sodas anymore, so I'd like to switch back to sweet tea to get my caffeine (and avoid those horrible caffeine-withdrawal headaches).

I know there's got to be an easy way to make sweet tea with Splenda. Anyone have any suggestions? I've never actually used Splenda in such a large quantity, so I'm not sure how it converts. I've always just used one or two packets in a cup of coffee.< /span>

Advice on how to make a gallon of sweet tea with Splenda? Can I use one of those Iced Tea Makers?

I use splenda in my tea. It measres cup for cup just like sugar, I use about 1/2-3/4 cup of splenda depending on the size of the picture I am making. I use Decaf tea bags because my doctor does not like for us to have alot of caffeine, it is a diuretic and can cause you to become dehydrated if you have to much of it. I still have my one cup of coffie every AM. And when I am out I drink tea with caffeine, I like to go to McDonalds and get a Unsweet tea and add splenda.

You can buy boxes of Splenda (not in packs) and it measures just like sugar. I use about a cup for 3 quarts. It works really well.

i replaced my "sweet tea" fix for an arnold palmer.

it's half nonsweetened tea and half SF lemonade = crystal light. sounds utterly weird but when i have a sweet tea craving this is what i do now....diet cokes are a thing of the past:rolleyes:

Does it come out sweet enough, or do you still have to add spenda or some other sweetner to it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
