Hi! I am in Melbourne and was banded by Dr Fusco too.... 9/15--- He is AWESOME and so is his whole staff. I have my first fill on Wednesday...... Honestly- there are going to be some things that insurance won't pay for. I couldn't get my insurance to pay anything and did self pay--- I refused to go another year and gain another pound, and I have been lucky so far with no co-mobidities--but it is only a matter of time.

"Shop" around and find a surgeon and program you are comfortable with. If there are extra costs then it will come down to a choice for you. I have a feeling if you find the right doctor and get more comfortable with your choice the cost will seem a little less......

Good luck on your journey!!!

Slimteacherin08--HI fellow Fusco lifeshaper!!!

You really shouldnt assume that because I dont want pay that I dont really want it. I pay for insurance for a reason. This doctor has wasted 2 months of my time so I am not going to pay him.

I wasn't assuming that at all actually... And I completely understand your feelings about paying for insurance--Believe me. I've been paying for insurance too. And they told me to take a hike. I guess what I was trying to say was that if it was a doctor that didn't waste your time or that maybe treated you better etc then the fee that insurance didn't cover wouldn't seem like such a rip off or something. From what I gather from this site alot of docs have separate fees that insurance doesn't cover. Please don't get me wrong---I was NOT saying you didn't really want this. If you didn't want this you wouldn't have even gone to a seminar-- or gone thru all the other stuff to get to the point of surgery.

I didnt mean to come off snotty, I am just so discouraged. I waited on pins and needles awaiting insurance approval and when it came in a yes I was estatic only to be deflated over $$. I truly am glad you are doing well.

No worries-- I really didn't think that you didn't want this. Sometimes this whole email thing doesn't really express our personalities well enough. This is a really big thing for all of us... And I cannot even imagine having it drag on for months only to be let down and given the run around. It's totally stressfull, exciting, nerve racking etc etc.....

Keep strong and stay the course-- you'll soon be a band sister!!! :)

It's storming like crazy at my house-- I am logging off before my house gets hit by lightning.... Have a wonderfull night-- tomorrow is another day!

Hello mljalways and kimmyv,

I know what you mean mljalways...I jumped through insurance hoops for 8 months and was so scared they wouldn't approve me. I felt as though I could get my hopes up! It is VERY nerve racking. Eventually they came through. I hope you are able to find a surgeon to work with....have you tried Dr. Fusco?

kimmyv...how did you first fill go? I know what you mean....I am so glad I went with Dr. Fusco, I feel their program was well worth it all. You have to go with what is comfortable for you.

I'm in Satellite Beach & was banded by Dr Fusco March 24th. My husband works for Harris & luckily they paid for the surgery (but not the maintenance).

You'd think insurances would be smart enough to figure out that paying for surgery will be less $$$ on them in the long run. ...given that being chubby can cause a host of medical problems.

Dr. Fusco does not accept Tricare so my new journey is taking me to Jacksonville. I am determined to make this happen!!

Hi I'm in Palm City and was banded by Dr Rosa. Have to say i'm a little disappointed with him. I was banded in May 07 and to date have lost 50lbs. Have had about 4fills. Last one was in February and have not heard from him since. Should I keep calling them (even though I don't feel i need another fill yet!) or should I wait for him to contact me to schedule a routine appt?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
