Has anyone moved post-band and had to change doctors?

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

I'm due to be banded on Nov. 19th in St. Louis. While I don't have any plans right now or in the next year ... my husband and I are already talking about the next place we'd like to live in 2 or 3 years time. (I just can't stay in one place b/c of my job I've lived all over the country). :thumbup:

Now I have heard about doctors being hesitant to be the post surgery doc of people who have been banded in Mexico. Or if they didn't do the surgery.

Has anyone out there gotten the band and then moved? Did you have problems finding a doctor to take care of you?

I too plan to move in 2-3 years. I figured by then I'd be pretty "normalized" fill wise etc; and if I have an emergency, whomever WILL treat me. But I'd like to know what other people say; I guessed if necessary I could always come back for a visit and use my Dr. Cavazos when adjustments are needed.

There are a few of us here who had to find a new doctor becasue ours moved. Luckily, he had arranged for another surgeon to take us on as patients, so that was a fairly easy transition.

Hopefully with your circumstances being that you moved, you will find a surgeon that will take you on. (I heard of one here that wanted to look at our records and decide if he would take us on :eek:) So, when the time comes you might want to get your records and bring them with you.

Good luck with everything!! :crying::thumbup:

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
