Recently banded, very optimistic

Recommended Posts

I'm three days post-op and the pain from the surgery gas is starting to wane somewhat. I have a wife and a son who have been more than supportive and who'd like to see me hang around a few more years. My family health history and my many past failures from one diet to the next led me where I am today. I felt the right decision was made and I've lost about half of what I needed to lose to get to where I looked and felt my healthiest. I hope everyone reaches that point in their personal lives. Pray for me and I'll do the same for you.

John

I've been able to lose, but never able to keep weight off and build on that. I am fairly optimistic that, while I will have to do the "work" in picking healthy foods etc, the band will help me keep weight off. Glad to meet another Positive thinker! I'm sure your wife and son are so proud and happy that you took this step for you and for the future!

Hi from N.C. Hope you are completely pain free soon. I have been banded since Sept 18 and myself have tried many diets. It awesome to have supportive families. My husband and daughter are my biggest cheerleaders. Congrats on being halfway to your goal. I have quite a way to go but am up for the challenge. I will keep you in my prayers.

John - I agree, having a supportive family is important. My husband and I are both being banded 11/13/08. We're planning on being each other's cheerleader! I have every intention of this being a complete success for both of us. You've done great so far! Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
