Sex after the surgery???

Recommended Posts

I hope I don't make anyone uncomfortable, but I am honestly concerned about how, if at all, having sex changes after the surgery. I mean after you are healed completely---Is it dangerous to feel weight on your abdominal area from your partner? Also, sex at times can require a significant deal of abdominal work---sorry everybody, I really don't mean to get x-rated here, but I'm trying to explain myself as scienifically as possible here---is abdominal work dangerous? If so, does that ever change, I mean when will it NOT be dangerous? I'm sorry if this was weird. I'm having surgery next month, November, and I'm trying to get as informed as I can get. Thank you for your replies everybody.

Why would sex after surgery be dangerous? I guess I don't understand why you would think it would be. You have to heal first from your incisions...and there will be some discomfort for a while until you're all healed up inside but, it's whatever is comfortable for you.

When the port is sewn in place and healed you can do whatever you want. If we can exercise, after we heal you can certainly have sex no problem. It took me a good 5 weeks before the internal incision part felt ok but that was me. Everyone is different and some heal faster!

Good luck

I wish I had that problem. No man in my life right now. I would guess when ever you feel comfortable. They say it takes 6 weeks after surgery for the band to heal/scar around your stomach. So if your worried about the pressure of someone smashing you, do what I would do....be on top!!

There's nothing that I haven't done. I don't really exercise like go to the gym. I work in a warehouse unloading trucks, so I get alot of physical activity on a regular basis. (Unfortunatly like I said, not a lot of PHYSICAL activity if you know what I mean.) I want to get a WII fit I here they are alot of fun. I guess there's a dance game and some type of hula hoop thing besides the basic yoga type stuff.

From a male prospective, sex is much better. The weight loss is like viagra. :crying:

Honestly, 2 1/2 months post op = no pain, no problems.

I've had my band almost three years now and I can honestly say maybe once or twice I've leaned against something in front of me like the kitchen counter to wash the kitchen window over my sink and I leaned on my port. You notice it quick, doesn't hurt more uncomfortable and so you stop. Other than that I barely know it's there unless I go looking for it or I'm getting a fill. You shouldn't have to worry about it once you're healed :crying:

You can definately do abdominal work etc. Will you notice the port....sometimes if you're building up that much muscle I would think you could but, as far as having to be extra careful because of it? I wouldn't think so but, best advice for that would be your doc. If you poke around in the before and after pics you'll see people in there that obviously have worked out pretty hard so I'm guessing they didn't have any issues  Best to ask your doc on that part of it.

Good luck with your band journey!

Hilarious Linksmom! Do you do ALL kinds of exercises or do you have to stay away from some kinds of exercises now that you had the surgery?

you probably want to check w/your dr - he/she may want you to wait a bit before doing ab exercises. mine suggested i wait 2 months out.

i love this thread was started in the fitness & exercise forum...:crying:

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for asking the question that many have probably wondered about but not comfortable asking. I am newly banded but that is one of the questions I was going to ask my doc on my next follow up. I wish you the best in your upcoming surgery in Nov

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
