Just banded yesterday!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just got banded yesterday and pretty uncomfortable today but very excited as you all know how the months before we are so anxiously waiting for the day.

One thing I've realized is that different doctors have different types of pre op and post op diet plans. I have gone to a Rhode Island doctor and was on a liquid pre op diet for 2 wks prior to the surgery, while my friend has gone to another RI doctor with no pre op diet requirement.

I'm a little unsure of the post op diet other than the first week so I'm hoping get some feedback here.

veejee:wink:

I have found the same thing all Dr.'s are differant . I was on a 1,000 a day calorie diet 2 wks befor surgery . After surgery i was on all liquid for the first two weeks. Be sure you talk to your Dr. and understand the diet when you go home. My Dr. gave me a printed out diet for 4 wks. so i went by that. Good Luck lynnlynn

I noticed many people on this forum were on different pre-op diets so I asked my doctor and he told me that it depends on your BMI. Some people have such a low BMI (35-39 or so) that he doesn't require his patients to diet (their liver is already small enough). Hope this helps....as far as the post-op diet, it seems like most people are similar but some people are just adding "mushies" sooner than others because they can't take the liquid only thing. Good luck to you! I have my surgery Monday Oct 13!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
