Just banded 2 days ago--10/9!! Need exercise advice!

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to get this procedure done for almost a year, but insurance turned me down. I finally realized that I was going to have to self-pay. My dad lent me the money, so now I will just pay him back, instead of a bank at a high interest rate.

I had the surgery and am SOOO lucky!! I had no nausea whatsoever, no oozing incisions, no gas...

I feel so good, with the exception of not being able to sit up too quickly or for too long.

I was hoping to get some advice on what exercises are best for preventing loose skin. Does anyone know?? Thanks in advance!

For right now you should only be walking, At my 6wk post-op they released me for all other exercise. I do curves right now and am going to increase grad. You can also rub Vitamin E oil on your heavy areas anyway that's what they told me to do to prevent streach marks and keep your skin moisterized.

Skin is an organ, you know. Exercise tightens muscle which lies UNDER the skin, but can't tighten skin. Whether you will have oodles of skin depends on many different factors: How heavy you were, how fast you gained, how long you were very heavy, how stretched WAS your skin, your genetics, your skin type, your age, and so on.

The best you can do is exercise per your surgeon's advice, eat as healthy as you can, take your Vitamins, drink Water, and wait to see how things "settle".

Just remember saggy skin is better than fat! If you have to have plastic surgery in some areas (or if you want it, I should say) that's better than, say open heart surgery. So hope for the best, expect you may have some saggy skin, and realize it beats the alternative.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
