How did you decide your goal weight?

Recommended Posts

What factored in? Did you use a chart? If so, which one? Did you pick a past weight that you liked or did you take advice from your doctor? Did your goal change once you got to your initial goal? thanks for sharing!

Well I went with what I weighted when I was in my 20's and early 30's and added a few pounds. I would fee comfortable at 130 and 140 would be fine. But I am small boned so 130 is the best for me. I weighted between 110 and 120 at my younger years.

hi all! i set my goal weight for 135, but my surgeons office set it as 180. they said that is when i would have a healthy BMI. so i guess somewhere in between the two.:)

I thought I looked pretty good at 150, and weighing that, my BMI would be in the healthy range. So that's why I chose it.

Years ago when I was taking adifax my BMI was 19, I was really healthy and my weight stayed stable for about about 6 years while taking it, so for me I will get down to BMI 20. That might seem low but I have tiny bone structure, I have to buy kids size hats and gloves. My husband calls me pin head and I call him fat head cause he has the opposite problem.

I started a lot higher than some of you (most of you? all of you? LOL) but just couldn't do bypass. I picked my goal because it's what I weighed in my early 30's; I felt good, fit into most "normal sized" clothing, and so on. My PCP told me if I got under 200 pounds he would cry happy tears of joy and could keep me healthy for years to come! So my main motivator for this isn't to look hot like many of you younger ladies (and maybe some of the gents) but to be able to be more active, mobile, and fit in the world. I hope to prevent development of DM II ('i'm borderline) to keep from developing hypertension (I"m borderline) to prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (borderline) ... to quit being "borderline" !

Once I get under 200 (2 years? maybe?) I'll reassess!

I picked 70kg because I'd gotten as low as 72 and felt great. I knew a BMI of about 20, 21 would be good for me, I didnt want to be still pushing overweight, I wanted good leeway.

My healthy weight range is 63 to 79kg and I know that 79 kg is still FAT for me, because I weighed that for years and years and years. I'm just not naturally skinny enough to hold 63 or I would go for it. But I seem to sit really comfortably at 70 so it was a good choice. I'd like less of a muffin top though!

I picked the last weight I was happy at and it meant losing 70 pounds. It was nice when my doc told me he expects me to lose no less than 65 pounds...really close to my goal. If I get below that great, but if not no biggie either.

My weight was decided when I met with the shrink. She ask me what I wanted to weight, I said I didn't know. How about 175? She pulled out the BMI chart and said I would still be overweight, how about 160? I thought, wow, that just seems crazy but OK. It's the high end of the BMI to not be overweight, but I've got big boobs and large bone structure. It might be too hard to achieve, but I'm gonna try!!! I think my body will tell me when we are done...

My doctor suggested 160 which I thought was WAY too high, but I think he was just being very conservative, Then I arbirarily put my own goal at 150, but by the time I got down there I realized I could get into the 40's pretty easily so I revised it to 140. Figured I didn't have a snowball's chance of getting any lower because of my age, but I was wrong. I don't want to get ANY lower than I am right now (135-137) because things are starting to droop. You gotta take into consideration your height and age.

My goal weight is 150 and it is NOT to look "hot" but to feel good and that is a weight I had the most energy at and I actually felt good about myself. I am getting this bad to feel better, to be healthy, to live a healthy lifestyle and to change my life and that of my family. I could lose more and still be in a healthy range of weight but I think that is a weight I can maintain with the band. Hopefully, I will get there.

I chose 160 to make a realistic goal that was attainable. I have always had the intentions to continue though to probably around 140. Although 160 I was comfortable with in the past I question whether I was just settling with that weight at the time.. I had the surgery to get healthy so 140 would put me at a much lower risk for many diseases.

Hi:

I picked a goal of a particular size. I started at size 26/28 and I wanted to be either a size 14 or a 12. I wasn't sure what weight that would be, but I figured that would be "average-sized". So, here I am at 176 I can fit into most 12's, and all 14's. My healthy bmi is 159 for my height, but I don't want to lose that much - too much loose skin. I don't want to be "thin" just want to be "average-sized". I spoke with my lap band doctor about it and I asked could I set my weight goal at 170 and he said because I'm in good health that 170 would be fine for me. So, I have 6 pounds to go. Unfortunately, it is taking forever, but that's okay because I have time and I'm comfortable at the size that I am now.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

At this point I just want to see the scale under 200lbs. I think i would really like to be about 170 its in the healthy BMI range and something I should be able to maintain. I am large boned and heavily muscled for a woman so I always even when I was a size 8 (At 150lbs) was in the high range of what was considered my weight range.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
