Hi everybody, I'm to be banded tomorrow morning by Thomas Cerabona at Westchester Medical Center in New York. Can't wait to have it done and have no second thoughts at this time. The internet has been an excellent source of information and inspiration which is a good thing as the support group connected to my surgeon's office is very pooly attended. So wish me luck and thanks to those who have gone before me and have shared their experiences.

I went to the hospital today and waited around for 4 hours only to be cancelled. I developed a boil of all things on my stomach and my surgeon said we would have to wait till it clears up. So he put me on antibiotics and said to make an appointment at his office in about 10 days. He said that he would try to fit me in for surgery asap. Unbelievable! He was right of course but all the planning for time off with my job and my husband's job out the window. Plus I was psyched and ready to go. Grrrrrrr

Hooray! I was banded on 10/23. Everything seems to have gone pretty smoothly. I have six incisions, 4 are about half an inch long, one is about an inch and a half, and one that is about three inches above my navel is about an inch but it is indented a bit. Has anyone else experienced that? I can't tell if the indented one is the port. I am on full liquids, about half a cup 3 times a day. Still pretty sore but this is not as painful as my 2 c-sections. I have not had any nausea and no dreaded gas pains, so far so good. Glad this is finally behind me

Glad you are feeling pretty good...and that you've started your new banded life!!! Thanks for saying it's not as bad as your C section. I've had two of those and it's good to have a guide to know what this will feel like.

Take it easy...stick to those liquids as long as you can.

and...

Congratulations!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
