~MyNewLife~ 0 Posted October 10, 2008 (edited) I was searching on Ebay the other day looking for books to read about LapBand and came across LapBand bracelets. This will notify EMT/Hospitals in case of an Emergency, that you have Lapband. I have never ever thought of this and was just wondering if anyone knows if we should get them. SeaSide 0 Posted October 10, 2008 Sorry I can't give you a quick answer, but your doctor's office should be able to tell you.
~MyNewLife~ 0 Posted October 10, 2008 Thanks for the reply. How did your surgery go?
sistasassy 6 Posted October 10, 2008 My doctor's office said I do not need one but I know many on here who's doctor did recommend one. I would follow the advise of your doctor and go from there. I am in the process of ordering a medical alert Bracelet for another condition and am just going to go with the one that has the phone number for them to call to get all health information. I will list my lap band there.
BigMomma1981 0 Posted October 19, 2008 My office stated that I will have to carry a card in my wallet at all times. I imagine that the Bracelet would just notify them sooner then looking through you purse.

PTO Mom 0 Posted October 19, 2008 I had never even thought of having a braclet...but I do work in the medical field and the faster you can get any past medical history on a patient --- it is better. So I do think that the braclet would be a good thing to have. Also many of us wear contact lenses and if you have a braclet that you can add different info to -- you might want to add the fact that you have contact. Froggi 4 Posted October 19, 2008 I've pondered a Bracelet but I know I would never wear it LOL. I am just going to keep the card in my wallet in my purse so if something did happen they could see in my purse.
Michee 2 Posted October 19, 2008 My doc posted on the clinic website that it is not necessary to get a medica alert (or similar) Bracelet. Of course there is no harm in getting one......... I guess if people are looking for ways to spend their hard earned money, they can send it to me for my new wardrobe fund, instead of to the bracelet engravers ! stevegoad 32 Posted October 19, 2008 I had the card given on the day of my surgery. I am like others, I don't want to wear a Bracelet. I figure that, if there is an emergency, they will be taking my shirt off for CPR, see the scars and it will be clear. If not, they will find the card when trying to indentify me. MustangGirlRN 0 Posted October 31, 2008 Hi guys: We are on the way  wont be long now My group gave me a sticker for the back of my driver’s licenses Patient has LapBand Gastric Banding No NG Tubing w/o calling (doctor's phone #) Fluid capacity 30 cc or less/ Limit NSAIDS My Doctor's Name I'm an ER nurse and I never thought about problems with needing an NG tube, but I think it would be a good idea to have the information to keep from getting an NG that could injure your stomach. Great idea.
MTBiker 1 Posted November 10, 2008 I checked with my surgeon, and he didn't think it was necessary to have a Bracelet, and was rather caught by surprise by the question. I think I will put a note in my ICE (in case of emergency) entry in my phone.
MonikaMMH 0 Posted November 10, 2008 hmmm, might give my parents an excuse to give me a cool gold Bracelet, since im allergic to most other metals and latex. put a little red enamel cross on it. why not?! support the economy!
MustangGirlRN 0 Posted November 10, 2008 Now that I've had my surgery and see that many people working post-op in the hospital don't even have any idea about lap banding, I think I am going to get a Bracelet so at least it would prompt someone to check should I not be able to speak. I guess I've learned so much I expect everyone else to know as much, and that's just not true. So....a new excuse to buy jewelry!
