Do we need a Bracelet?

Recommended Posts

I was searching on Ebay the other day looking for books to read about LapBand and came across LapBand bracelets. This will notify EMT/Hospitals in case of an Emergency, that you have Lapband. I have never ever thought of this and was just wondering if anyone knows if we should get them.

My doctor's office said I do not need one but I know many on here who's doctor did recommend one. I would follow the advise of your doctor and go from there.

I am in the process of ordering a medical alert Bracelet for another condition and am just going to go with the one that has the phone number for them to call to get all health information. I will list my lap band there.

I had never even thought of having a braclet...but I do work in the medical field and the faster you can get any past medical history on a patient --- it is better. So I do think that the braclet would be a good thing to have. Also many of us wear contact lenses and if you have a braclet that you can add different info to -- you might want to add the fact that you have contact.

I've pondered a Bracelet but I know I would never wear it LOL. I am just going to keep the card in my wallet in my purse so if something did happen they could see in my purse.

My doc posted on the clinic website that it is not necessary to get a medica alert (or similar) Bracelet.

Of course there is no harm in getting one......... I guess if people are looking for ways to spend their hard earned money, they can send it to me for my new wardrobe fund, instead of to the bracelet engravers !

I had the card given on the day of my surgery.

I am like others, I don't want to wear a Bracelet. I figure that, if there is an emergency, they will be taking my shirt off for CPR, see the scars and it will be clear. If not, they will find the card when trying to indentify me.

I'm an ER nurse and I never thought about problems with needing an NG tube, but I think it would be a good idea to have the information to keep from getting an NG that could injure your stomach. Great idea.

I checked with my surgeon, and he didn't think it was necessary to have a Bracelet, and was rather caught by surprise by the question. I think I will put a note in my ICE (in case of emergency) entry in my phone.

Now that I've had my surgery and see that many people working post-op in the hospital don't even have any idea about lap banding, I think I am going to get a Bracelet so at least it would prompt someone to check should I not be able to speak. I guess I've learned so much I expect everyone else to know as much, and that's just not true. So....a new excuse to buy jewelry!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
