Two Days Post-Op - Burping?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Had my surgery on the 8th. I'm doing my best to sip my Water and/or Protein drink whenever I can. Wondering if all the burping I'm doing is normal? Seems like whenever I have a couple sips, I am burping quite a bit. Also, not sure if the discomfort I feel is from too much liquid or gas or the incisions. It's not completely uncomfortable, but can feel like a cramp or gas bubble. I'm also pretty weak. Hoping that the weakness is simply from the surgery. Any thoughts?

You are doing amazing for having surgery on the 8th....usually the 3rd day or so is bad because all of the medication is coming out of you (anesthetic, etc.) You have a new little stomach that is sensitive and it is very normal to have horrible gas pains - kind of feels like gas is trapped in the chest (that was my experience)....matter of fact, the gas is about the worst of it.....it only gets better from here. Welcome and have a wonderful journey...I know I have!!

I am two days post op as well. I noticed that the gas and burbing seems to be getting worse. In the hospital they said that both were good. Something about getting extra air out of your lungs and your belly. I am up and moving around today. The worst pain I have is at the port site. It is still a little swelled up and I can feel that muscle pulling when I sit or stand. I do feel a little panicked about getting down 64 oz of Fluid though, because I can only sip a little before it starts to get uncomfortable. So hang in there I am sure in a couple of days the worste will be behind us.

I know what you mean, Newby23. I am keeping track of my liquid/protein intake and have no idea how I'm going to get 64 oz. in today. I'm barely working on my 2nd 16 oz. glass (decaf tea). I must be swallowing a lot of air each time I swallow! My pain is pretty minimal. I'm just so darned weak! Not sure if it's because of no food or surgery - probably both. I'm not a very patient patient!

I'm right there with you girls. I was banded on the 8th as well. I have been using gas-x strips for the gas pain. It seems to help a little. I was up alot last night with pain. I also went to the mall today and walked, walked, walked around for about 4 hours. Then I went starbucksfora tea and sat there enjoying life. I think it's best to get out and about. But now i'm tired and ready for a nap...lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
