Can anyone tell me about their own experience with the amount of time between the first informational meeting and your actual surgery (barring any unforseen holdups). How long did it take for all of you?

Lorie,

I think it would depend if you are going to try insurance, or if you are a self pay. I my case I am a self pay, and once I had a consulation, I could have scheduled it the next week. However, I got the money from my savings, and have to wait on the check. Insurance will take a little longer, depending on your type.

I know you will get more replys, as I am fairly new hear, and my band date is July 20th. Cannot wait!!

Good luck, and keep reading, these folks are loaded with knowledge, and wisdom.

Sorry to tell you that it was about 9 months from when I first requested the surgery and when I got approval. Insurance co is Cigna PPO. Hopefully, they were the worst! , I fought them 'tooth and nail' the whole time. Finally, I received approval AND they have recently approved the lap band as an "approved procedure," so hopefully it will be easier for others.

Can anyone tell me about their own experience with the amount of time between the first informational meeting and your actual surgery (barring any unforseen holdups). How long did it take for all of you?

I t took 9 months with blue cross blue shield new england and 2 information meeting, 3 nutrition meeting, 6 pysch meeting, 1 medical exam meeting, 6 exercise meetings, 1 surgeon consult, as you can see there was a lot of prepartion. and also pre-op testing I swear if I did'nt work 11-7 I would of lost my job with all the meeting and appts. finally banded though and you forget about it after.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
