insurance troubles

Recommended Posts

I think it is great that you all have been able to have this done. I surely wish I would be able, but my insurance will not cover this procedsure even though my dr. wants me to have this done. I weight almost 400 lbs, 5'3, breathing difficulties, on oxygen, high B/P, diabetic.

I asked my insurance company about it and they said no I asked even if this is for health reasons and they still say no .

So now we hope every week we could win something on the lottery so I could have this done ha ha ha cause we sure can't afford to pay for this but hopefully someday I will be able so goodluck to all of you. Oh yes I have tried other ways of weight lose in case you were wondering .

My husband and family love me, but I want to be healthier, take care all.

:) goodluck all

I'm sorry to hear that, wvhjb44. There's no way I would have been able to afford the band if my insurance hadn't covered pretty well. Does your insurance cover ANY weight loss surgery? Perhaps if your doc wrote a strongly worded letter showing how much more money you'd cost the insurance company if the didn't cover a weightloss surgery?

Deat WV,

Sorry to hear that your insurance company has denied you. Is it just your case or do they not cover any weight loss surgery? I would pin them down.

Many docs offer a payment plan. Could your family afford to do this? In the end, it will cost your family less. Your health will get worse. It's only a matter of time. If your policy is like mine, you have deductibles and co-pays. All that money adds up. I would try any and every way to get this wonderful tool.

I have been banded 14 months and have lost 75 pounds with it and lost another 30 pounds prior to being banded. I have about 40 pounds yet to lose. I got my Tummy Tuck last month. I am now the same size as I was when I was 18. Still too big, but a "normal" size now. I know you've tried every diet out there. I sure did - over 40 years worth of failed diets! The band works. I wish it had been available back then. I hope you'll be able to get it and have it work for you!

Good Luck to you. I hope that lottery win comes. Our insurance system stinks! Everyone deserves the chance to get and stay healthy.

Keep in touch. Let us know how you make out.

Katja

Did u try researchin other options?? I switched insurance companies just to have this covered!!! Try goin on ur own with insurance getting something that does cover it...i got personal choice and i only had to pay 1,300.00 to have this surgery done...i used to have aetna which denied it it was excluded from my policy..try a different route like financing.. i went to the barix clinic and they have options for slef pay also..good luck

 Sorry to hear about your ins. problem. Mine didn't cover it either, but I was lucky enough to be able to afford cash pay...kinda, credit cards you know!!! Have you looked into the care credit?

It can be used for anything medical. I'm using it for my Tummy Tuck in January...WhooHooo!!!

Good luck, hope you can get the band!:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
