Hi everyone,

I have been researching Lap Banding for a long while now and have been in the mind set of "it's okay, I can do this on my own without help" but now realise it has to be just as bad going from diet to diet without any lasting success as it would be to be over weight. I love exercise, but my problem is trying to balance food intake and exercise. When I am not exercising I am fine, I have controlled portions of food and eating well, but when I am exercising my appetite increases dramatically. I try to limit my food intake and stick to regimented plans and I start to loose weight, then I slowly bring in the exercise and I loose control of everything. So, I am ready to admit that I need help and I have chosen Lap Banding as my first preference. I have tried appetite suspressants and find that the side effects are just dreadful - but while the short periods of time I have been able to go on them, it has been perfect as I could control my portions very easily and do the exercise. My doctor was not terribly receptive when I first mentioned banding, but I really have thought of it as a last resort. Not because of the procedure or any of the risks, but simply because I felt I did not really need that level of help. I am going for a referral on Monday and hoping to get into Dr Watson. Now I have really made up my mind (based on reading for hours the pros and cons), I feel really relieved and really can't wait to get the process underway.

So after all of that (and gosh, it feels so good to actually get it off my chest!!) I just wanted to know if there are any Perth Lap Band people or country people coming to Perth who are just starting the process off?

Would definately love to hear from anyone who would like to offer advice or recomendations on surgeons in the Perth area.

Thanks

Linda

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
