Recommended Posts

Well hello to everyone. I guess to begin I should say that i am really thinkg hard about lapband. I am 22years old and I am a heart patient. So to do this for my heart and myself is my push. I have yo-yo dieted for way to many years. I went on my first diet at the age of 12. It really worked that time for a little while btu every time I diet and then backfall i always seem to gain all my weight back plus much more. For once in my life i am ready to get to a goal weight and keep it off. but I really don't know where to start. I don't know if my insurence will cover it and how do i get approval. Also when i talk to my mom about it all i get from her is you can do what every you want. I guess i feel sh could be a litle more supportive. So please any advice or if anyone knows if anthem cover lapband please let me know!:)

A good start would be for you to call up the insurance company and basically start a dialog with them. Ask if they cover weight-loss surgery (WLS). If yes, which surgeries are covered? What are the requirements, etc. But I would start everything off by talking to the insurance....because what they say might affect how you go about your plans.

I'm also 22 and had done many many diets with no lasting results! I have TriCare and they cover the surgery, however, none of the hospitals here in Washington would take them because they don't even pay back enough to cover the band itself let alone the surgery fees. So I had to self pay. I went through CareCredit. A lot of insuarance companies have websites where you can look and find what things are covered. Find a seminar close to you and go to it!!! Sometimes that is the motivation you need. You're mom is right, you can do whatever you want to do!!! Go for it!!! It is really worth it!!!!! Good luck! Keep us updated :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
