Surgery this Monday

Recommended Posts

I am getting the lap band on Monday. I am really excited and scared at the same time. I guess that I am aware of all of the great things that can come from this. But I am starting to get scared of all that I am reading and hearing about food "getting stuck" and how painful that is. I would like someone to be frank with me on the negative things that I may experience after the surgery, and how they weigh out to the positive things. Thanks

Aimeemo, don't take this the wrong way....but have you done your homework regarding the lapband? I mean, it's practically Friday right now, and you're asking for input. Realistically, what would it take for you to cancel your Monday surgery?

Ultimately, I only ask these semi-rhetorical questions because having a lap-band means making some pretty big changes in how and what you eat. If you aren't totally 100% committed to making those changes, then getting the band will only be a waste of time and money.

However, if you know what's going to be required of you and are committed to working with the band, it's great. Personally, I love my band. It's the most powerful weight loss tool that I've ever had access to. It's working for me.....but it's not effortless.

I cannot recommend the band to just anybody. There are people on this website that struggle with their band. Mostly I hear "My doc didn't tell me this" or "I never thought that" or "It never even occured to me to ask". That is not a very good start on a weightloss journey. Knowledge is power.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
