I have found it worse as the pregnancy progresses. I had to have a complete unfill as I could keep nothing down. Even now with no Fluid in the band I am still not able to keep food down unless it is very soft. Should settle once baby gets here though.

Me too . . . I can no longer tolerate any fill at all. Even empty I get occasional back discomfort where everything feels "stuck." I am really hoping that I get back to normal post delivery.

Just an update - in november i posted that my band got looser around the start of my pregnancy. Well not long after that - a few weeks - it got so tight i had to go for a partial unfill - i had a hard time getting small amounts of Fluid down. I was more worried about staying hydrated than anything else. Anyway, it is now almost 7 months later, i havent been back for another unfill or fill, but I still have restriction, Just enough I think. However, some days are definately tighter than others, and mornings have always been tighter for me. One day I can manage to eat alot more than on other days. Very strange but it's been all good. My weight gain has been good, just enough, and baby is measuring normal and I feel good - havent had problems with blood pressure or gestational diabetes and I think chances are i would have if I had no restriction.

I have a question. I had surgery on Jan 21, 2008 in August I found out that I was pregnant and May 9, 2009 I delivered my beautiful baby girl. When I found out I was pregnant I got an unfill. My doctor wanted it all out. I did great the first couple of months with weight gain but I ended up gaining around 50lbs. I am going in for my first fill on June 24th and I am nervous about it. I am not sure what to expect. I haven't had any restriction in so long. How do I begin again? What should I eat? Any other advice? Thanks, Carrie

I know that this thread has been going for so long that probably few people read it anymore, but seeing as I'm one of the 3 people who polled as "looser" I figured I'd post something anyway.

I was pretty tight before I got pregnant and had just had another fill a week or two before I conceived. For whatever reason, I have felt looser during my entire pregnancy, and I'm 29 weeks now. I eat whatever I want, don't chew well, etc. I have enough restriction that I don't eat like a cow, but I can still finish off a normal unbanded person sized meal, and some days I can finish off a lot more than that. Every once and a while I've felt stuck, but that's typically because I've just swallowed a huge bite of something that I didn't bother to chew, and I deserved to be stuck. I don't really understand why I've gotten looser, but there you go.

The thing is that as loose as I am, I have only gained 3 lbs so far, and that only in the last month or so. I eat healthy, but I eat what I want and don't diet what-so-ever. I guess my baby has a really high metabolism. I find it ironic that I try my whole life to lose weight and can't, I get banded and only manage to lose 15 lbs in 9 months, then I get pregnant, which is the one time when you are SUPPOSED to gain weight, and I can't gain for nothing. Somehow I feel cheated.

I would suggest googling the 5 day pouch test as a start for after your fill. After that point, just make sure you go back to band basics and follow the rules like chew to go, no drinks with meals, Proteins first, etc.

Good luck :)

I've had 3 fills since having my baby, and still feel no restriction (SIGH). I go back again this month. I'm scared/sad/whatever.

I had my first fill yesterday since giving birth. I am feeling pretty tight, too tight and i am scared that natural childbirth has caused a problem with the band, that maybe it slipped with all that pushing

I was worried about breastfeeding, my dr told me that I was to eat no Breakfast, a can of tuna for lunch and fish and veges for dinner, problem is I can't even eat that. :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
