BethFromVA 5 Posted December 16, 2008 Nope, Mac, not any meaner than her sitting and rolling her eyes on a show where teenagers were talking about their WLS stories. She was just sooooo not nice. IMO she was so into the negatives that were brought up on that show and so into pushing her negative opinion when something positive was said about WLS. I lost whatever respect I had (wasn't much) for her that day. Never have been a huge fan and after that show just cannot turn her on anymore. I do have sympathy for her (or anyone with WL issues...we've all been there, right?). But, there comes a point where a person needs to take the initiative and DO something like we all have. I just feel she is a coward to sit in judgment of WLS people. Who can say what her yo-yo syndrome has done to HER health? I agree, Apples. Hell, look at how she touted her liquid-only diet for months on end which is not safe either. Then the second the show was over, ate it all back up again. I can see her saying hey, WLS is not for me, but who am I to judge, rather than vocally admonishing it or people who have it. Somebody mentioned something earlier (tongue in cheek, I'm sure) about her being sued for dissing WLS. Heck, she was sued for saying something negative about the beef industry. That's how Dr. Phil being thrust on America was born.

I lost whatever respect I had (wasn't much) for her that day. Never have been a huge fan and after that show just cannot turn her on anymore. i don't watch her show either (get her mag subscription - because it's actually a good read) ... but that episode was talked about here before and after wards. i too lost all respect for her how she treated that young girl and her mother for going to dr ortiz for the lapband - yet applauded the girls who did it the "REAL" way. wonder who has kept that weight off so far...?? just sayin' i don't rely on anyone in the media to influence my purchasing decisions be that from a car / home / pet / groceries or WLS. like donna at a size 10, i felt fat - didnt' necessarily need the mirror to tell me that; but telling myself i just needed to accept myself took me to a size 16 day of surgery. i think oprah has backed her 200lb butt into a corner now, to ever go and have WLS - which is a damn shame. she would be able to eat her cake & enjoy it if she did - though only a half a slice....unfortunate she's shun the only thing that might help her beat the deamons. i'm not saying WLS is for everyone - but she sure has the ability to benefit. kgloverii 0 Posted December 16, 2008 Can I get a witness? This has been the most liberating! I actually forget to eat now. I no longer live to eat, but eat to live! It's been an AMAZING experience I actually called my husband about an hour ago and told him "I need you to help me out... I totally forgot to eat ALL day and that is just NOT good." I literally have not eaten ANYTHING today, and have only drank 2 cups of hot tea with milk. Eating never crossed my mind today, I have just been too busy. Who the heck would've EVER thought that would happen a year and a half ago?!
Jachut 487 Posted December 16, 2008 That only happens to me if I'm busy - when I'm working full time on teaching rounds I notice I eat about 1000 a day, I eat Breakfast, lunch, dinner and a fruit snack in the class with the kids. There's no opportunity for between meal eating. I think when I go back to work full time at the end of my degree (one year to go) I will lose weight. At the moment, my life doesnt have that sort of structure being a stay at home mum/student. I'm busy but I'm around the house, I get multiple opportunities to see food.< /p> Saturdays when we're busy with shopping and 3 basketball games, I often go from breakfast to dinner without eating - and without getting hungry. plain 12 Posted December 17, 2008 I can see her saying hey, WLS is not for me, but who am I to judge, rather than vocally admonishing it or people who have it. Right....I agree 100%. She doesn't have to give a glowing recommendation, but to keep an open mind would be nice. For somebody that believes some really kooky (yeah, I used "kooky" as an adjective) new-age stuff, she has a surprisingly closed off mind towards WLS. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass if Oprah thinks I'm doing it the "easy" way, or whatever.....We're in such radically different socioeconomic circles that she couldn't relate to me anyway. Heck, and here I thought taking the easy way was having a gazillion dollars and having a private chef making healthy, weight-conscious meals for you. No matter what, there is STILL adherance on our parts to MAKE the band work. Either she doesn't realize that or she doesn't care, but either way, we who are going through it know it's not the easy way. It just happened to be the last way for all of us, the final choice for many.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted December 17, 2008 You know, she may be one of those people that WLS wouldn't even work for. There are plenty of people who have it done and lose weight but gain it all back. Even with the band, there are so may slider foods that she would lose weight during the post op diet and put it all back on. Does anyone know how that one singer is doing whose name is escaping me at the moment? She had her gastric bypass on the internet. Last I heard, she was really struggling to keep her weight off. Carnie Wilson? Did she do it on video? I was wondering the same thing.

I think you might be talking about Carnie Wilson. She has been so "out there" about everything she has been through which IMO is admirable. I believe I heard that she is in her second pregnancy. She was on some tv show this summer and stated that she was up to a little over 200lbs. She talked some about her struggles, etc. I have a hell of a time admiring "idols" but she seems so down to earth and "real".

I could totally be wrong about this... but wasn't Carnie paid by someone to be the bypass spokesperson type celeb? I don't remember why that sticks in my head. WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted December 17, 2008 Yep, I was right. She's a paid spokesperson for bypass: ABC News: Carnie Wilson Keeps the Weight Off by Cooking
plain 12 Posted December 17, 2008 Paid "mouthpiece" or not, I still like Carnie. At least she's not one of those fanatical DS'ers....."I pooped 12 lbs and it looked like Mt Rushmore. Is this normal"
