Getting the Band in November 08

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am new to this site so bear with me. I am getting the Band on 11/25/08. I am scared, nervous and excited all at the same time. I don't know what to expect, except what my doctor has told me. Can anyone offer me any advise and expectations. Thanks so much :wink2:

Colettes, I'm right there with you, my surgery is scheduled for November 24th. I think I'm more nervous about the approval process. My info will not be submitted until early November once all my requirements are met. I hope there are no problems with the approval and it goes through quickly. Once I have the approval I think my nerves and excitement will heighten for other reasons. It's so exciting but so nerve wracking!!! :wink2:

Hi ladies! I am Lisa from California and my surgery is scheduled Nov. 18th...I am really excited and very much expecting to have a difficult first 2-7 days post surgery days from what I have read on this helpful site. I'm glad I found this site, because the real and honest responses from the members of this site are helping me prepare mentally, physically, and emotionally for the best and the worst. And the responses have been so positive regarding all the weight loss after the band, that I am even more encouraged that the band is so totally worth it. Good luck in November--it's going to be great!!!

Hi and congrats all November bandsters! I am scheduled for Nov 18th at Silver Cross hospital in Joliet, IL. I go to the 3 hour class on Oct 20th. I am nervous and excited too. Hopefully it will be a smooth process...the closer it gets the more anxious I am. I know it is not going to be easy but look forward to the journey!

I am getting banded on the 24th too......So many of us are close to the same time. I can tell you that I believe that everyone feels the same way during this time......the waiting game. My doctor didn't order any diet restrictions before surgery at all. That really surprised me. They said it had to do with the BMI really. I have pre-op on the 16. The bad thing for me is that I have to travel 3 1/2 hours to the hospital. That isn't going to be much fun coming home after surgery. Good Luck everyone!

I've been on weight watchers since June. But 10 days before surgery I will do the medi-fast thing with a small weight watcher meal to lose another 10 pounds. The have to shrink your liver right before surgery to it's not large when they go in there.

The drive won't be much fun. But you may even sleep all the way home.

My surgery date is scheduled for Nov 14th. I can not wait, it is all I think about. My doctor wanted me to lose 10lbs but did not say I needed a liquid diet pre surgery.

My mother in law had hers in Mexico in July. They had her drink slim fast for 2 meals and a weight watcher meal for dinner. My doctor will give me the medi fast drinks. I guess I will be drinking 4 per day. They have to shrink your liver. I've seen several posts where it's not and they have to reschedule.

:eek:Hello everyone, new to site! I'am very glad that I found this site. I have gone to all my doctors appts. I am going to my class 10/20; my psych eval and nutritionist appts on 10/28/08. I guess after these appts my doctor will schedule my surgery. I looking forward to it. I had been undecided on which surgery to have, but I believe that lap band will be good for me. I am nevous about the operation but I am keeping positive thoughts.

BlakQueen~

Good luck with your surgery. I think Lap Band is the only way to go. Who wants their whole insides taken out, shortend and re-routed??

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
