Hi everyone. Looking for some help. Last night I had the breathing test with the pulminary dr. I failed the test and need to go for an overnight sleep apnea test? I am not sure what this means - I don't have trouble sleeping that I am aware of. Will having sleep apnea cause my insurance to decline me the lap band surgery. So far I got the clearnace from my primary, the psychiatrist, attended 1 of my 3 classes with the dietitian and nutrionist - only two more to go and then just the appointment to get cleared from the cardiologist and I am done.Another question I have is - how long after you complete everything does it take to actually get a surgery date. i am hopping to be done with all the preop stuff the insurnace company requires by the end of November - so I was wondering how long it takes before I have a date. Any advise would be really helpful. I am nervous and scare but finally see the light at the end of my tunnell.sorry for the spelling mistakes....sneaking on from work so trying to be quick

Having sleep apnea is a co-morbidity. It usually makes getting approval easier.

Hi, I also had to do a sleep apnea test. I was already approved for the surgery because of my weight and the co-morbidity of hypertension. I just had a bunch of things I needed to complete before they would schedule the surgery. I needed the psych eval, nutritionist and exercise therapist counseling, etc.

The sleep study was the last thing I did and it was really quite easy. I went in about 6 in the evening. They had me put on my pajamas and then put all sorts of wires and monitors. It was kind of hard to fall asleep and I moved a lot which got me tangled in the wires. They said that I moved more than a lot of people they had seen.

I got my sleep study results mid-June and didn't get my pre-op date until Sept. 19th when they scheduled my surgery. So, it took about 3 1/2 months for me.

They determined that my sleep apnea wasn't bad enough to warrant a cpap machine, but they did watch me for it during my recovery after the surgery.

Hi.

I had to have a sleep study and was convinced that I did not have sleep apnea. I found out that I do have sleep apnea and needed to have a cpap machine. I was really mad and upset and did not want to be on the machine, that is until I use it the first night. I could not believe how much better I felt, and that I must have been in complete denile of my tiredness. It really is only a positive (in that it is considered a co-morbidity) for the surgery. My clinic required that one needed to by on the cpap machine for 30 days before surgery.

Once, I had everything required completed, my clinic went to the insurance company (which took two weeks to get appoved) then they scheduled surgery which was two and half weeks out.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
