Hi, my name is Cedar. I live in the UK. I'm 56 and I had a gastric band applied two years ago now. My weight has fallen in that time from 20 stone to 10 and a half stone (I think that's from 127 kilos to 66 kilos). There have been a lot of problems along the way and there are still health and nutrition things I'm really worried about and that's why I've joined this forum, in the hope that I might learn from other peoples' experience. I have to say straight away that I am very very happy with this weight loss, it has been worth everything. It is wonderful to be able to feel 'normal', to get into normal clothes, size 12, even if it's just a shirt and trousers, it's great. And I wouldn't for a moment consider having the band removed, because I know my weight would go straight up again. But I've got worries about the long-term prospects, the sustainability. I can say more later what the difficulties and the questions are for me. The thing is, there is absolutely no follow-through from the private clinic that I got the gastric band from, no after-care, no advice, and that's why I want to read the discussions on this forum. It's good to be here. More later, Cedar.

Hi Ceder Welcome to LapBandTalk.

9-1/2 Stones lost forever for 2 Years now. Outstanding

I also lost 9-1/2 Stones once in my life and gained it back so I do understand your worries.

I am not able to advise you from doing it myself With the LB yet.

People that have had the Lap Band for a long time do not always look here in the Introduction Forum.

Here would be a good place to start. If you will go down on the page you will find

Forum Jump in that you will find

United Kingdom Local Lap-Band Support.

Go into that and start a Thread with what part of the UK your in and what your looking for bet you will find help good luck.

Thanks for this reply. I am not quite sure how to use Lapbandtalk.com yet. Things like "Threads" and "Tags" I am not sure how to interpret and use. But I will find out gradually I expect.

I'm coming up for three years now and so far, absolutely no problems. I've begun having Fluid let out of my band, although its made it a bit harder to maintain, i want to find the point where I can have the least restriction possible and still remain at 70kg. I really believe that being tight for long periods of time leads to higher risks of problems.

I also endeavour to maintain my weight as much as possible with exercise rather than relying on tight restriction for severe calorie control. So far its working well.

I dont fear problems, but if they arise, I will have NO hesitation in being either rebanded or revising to the sleeve (which is becoming more and more popular here). I know I need intervention to remain at a normal weight, the difference in appetite with even small removals of fill is quite remarkable.

But I just remain optimistic and thankful for the tool I have.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
