surgery on your period?

Recommended Posts

Of course. It's not going to be fun afterwards, however, maintaining hygeine while you're recovering....

Yes. I was 'lucky' enough to have mine start the day before surgery. It will be a bit more difficult to take care of yourself, but its not that bad at all.

Don't worry, the nurses will be there to help you.

Like the others said, yes you can. From what I have read here, how this is handled on surgery day varies by hospital. Some let you wear a tampon, some give you paper panties to wear, some have you just put a pad between your legs etc.

can you still have the lapband surgery if you are on your period or spotting?

Just remember they do give you blood thinners so make sure you bring enough protection.

Ugh. Sounds like it's not going to top the list of "Most Awesome Surgery Experiences." "Dang It, Aunt Flo! Your timing is TERRIBLE!!!"

Absolutely, no problem at all except for the inconvenience and more frequent trips to the bathroom. However, you are supposed to be up and moving anyway, so no big deal.

Heather, Congratulations! When did you find out you were expecting?

I had to stop taking my birth control pills a week before surgery (doctor's orders) so of course I was expecting to start anytime. I wasen't bleeding or anything when I went into surgery however, but when i woke up the nurse had stuck a rag between my legs because apparently I started while I was on the table. (Embaressing!) After a few hours it stoped thou... odd.

-Oh, and sorry for the TMI ! :wink2:

Nobody's girl,

I had the same experience. I had knee surgery, and when I was in the recovery room I woke up to quite a mess and the nurse was trying to be so nice. I was SO EMBARRASSED!!! What was worse is I couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom to fix the situation..... It was a nightmare.

Heather, Congratulations! When did you find out you were expecting?

I have only known for about 2 weeks. I am still getting used to the idea.

I was a little nervous that my weight might start going in the opposite direction, but I am only 4 pounds from goal so I think I will be OK if I gain a few. I am still really careful about diet and exercise.

I am also thrilled that I get to have a cute baby bump on a normal sized frame this time around, lol.

Wow! I'm so excited for you. My children are 7 years apart and yours will be 17 years apart. What does your son think of it?

We haven't had the heart to heart conversation about it yet. However, over the summer I kind of put the feelers out there and he said it would be better to wait until he is in college, lol.

He has always been a single child. It will be a little bit of a shock to him. He likes small children so I am not too worried.

My son absolutely doted on his baby sister until she hit about 2 and he's been going out of his way ever since to make her life miserable. Now that he's 15 and she's 8, they get along a bit better.

I'm sure your son's going to adore his baby sister/brother. He's way too old now to feel any sibling rivalry.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
