HELP!!! First Fill Refused???

Recommended Posts

ok... ummm, Today was my fill appt and i was weighed and well my highest weight was 429.2 and that was on 7/31/08. My surgery date was 8/26/08 and now on the day i was supposed to get my first fill (10/8/08) i weigh 371.2 so thats a total of 58 lbs even lost and my doctor wouldnt give me a fill. I'm upset, is this normal to get rejected for a fill? I was so upset i didnt even hear the reason of him not giving me a fill can anyone tell my why? I know 58lbs is good but i wanted a fill cuz i have NO restriction at all also so i could have a sense of fullness and to loose even more weight. Should i be upset or worried? Is this normal not to get your first fill?

If a doctor believes you are still loosing pretty well without a fill he will wait a little longer. That's what my friend was told.

You've lost 58 pounds in 10 weeks. That's 5.8 pounds a week. You'd have to ask him to find out exactly why he didn't give you a fill but I'd figure it's because you are losing very well exactly as you are. We're "supposed" to lose 1-2 pounds a week, and you're losing 3 times that. You aren't a bypass patient and I'm guessing he feels you're doing fine as you are right now. When your loss slows, I'm sure he'll give you a fill.

That is a massive amount of weight in a very short period of time, if I were you I wouldn't get a fill until you stop losing and plateu, and then get a fill. Good luck!

congrats on your 58 pounds!!!! that is great!! i too wanted a fill after losing 40 pounds in 3 1/2 months, i got 1cc put in for a total of 3cc's in my band. yesterday he had to take 1/2 cc back out due to throwing up and unable to eat anything solid in a week. i felt terrible, eveything got stuck and had pain in my chest for atleast 1 hr after eating oatmeal, andyogurt, forget solids they wouldn't go down. i was able to eat Soup yesterday and feel so much better. i think losing it slow is better. it took along time for this weight to go on so have patience and keep up the good work. you don't want too much restriction its not worth it!!

Hi Amber

Loved your vlog. What a great idea!

Hang in there. It does get better. Don't be discouraged. You are doing great!

I am 5 months out and have had 2 fills. I do think I am almost at my sweet spot. I can eat more than I probably should but because I continue to lose weight steadily my surgeon agrees that I do not need another fill at this point.

I am LOVING the band.

My doctor told me as long as I am losing and not starving between meals he won't give me a fill. I was upset at first, but now I understand. I don't want to have to have ps after my weight loss so I will be patient. Hang in there you are doing great.

I agree with everyone. You have lost a incredible amount of weight in a short period of time. You do not need to speed it up any. Like Lindar172 mentioned, at this rate if you keep losing too fast your skin will not be able to keep up. Your doctor is doing what is best.

Every doctor is different on their calorie requirements. Just be sure to follow whatever your doctor says.

I might just as well not had a fill. I drove 5 hours and cost me $200 and the fill doctor didnt believe me that I had a 10 cc band, because I couldnt take 3 cc's so she backed it off and I still had no restriction.

I sure know how dissapointed you feel. I was so looking forward to some restriction to see how it felt and to have the band start helping me, instead of it being all will power.

Iv had two now, and barely restricted. I guess we have to be patient. Congrats on losing 58 lbs. Awesome job. I havent lost enough that anyone has even noticed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
