First Fill & Stuck Food

Recommended Posts

Hello....banded Aug 5th First Fill Friday 10/03. So far down 17 lbs. Not weighing myself Until one week has past.

Anyway after being filled I was fine, little sore. But when it comes to eating that's something different. If I eat chicken, turkey, beef it comes back up. If I eat certain veggies they come back up. Mashed potatoes go down yogurt soft foods. Not all the time but I guess it will take time to eat slow, chew food slower..just enjoy and take my time. I am learning. But now I know when I read about fills and the BP's and the saliva and all that...it's me. I really have to pay attention to the size of food and how I chew. Does this come to an end or is it how it is when you are restricted? I mean I know this but does it get easier? I am glad and very happy with my band I am just waiting for the weight to come off and I really use to like to eat but with food geting stuck I find myself not wanting to eat. (sometimes) I guess this is normal. I have a shake (protein) in the morning...small snack tuna (which will get stuck) my lunch which is a meat veggies, mashed potatoes, or rice. Maybe a cup of food. sugar free pudding..dinner which is almost the same as lunch...I eat allot of tofu. I freeze half my shake for a treat at night. But the tuna gets stuck, chicken, turkey, beef so I find myself not wanting it. Carrotts even cooked get stuck, broc too I am finding things to eat but it takes me forever to eat. I think I had 2cc and it was done my ultr sound so I watched the whole thing (pretty cool) But the first sip got stuck and the doctor took some out and the next sip went down fast I asked him to add a bit more and that sip went down slow. But that's what I wanted. Oh well I will go on and on.

If you can't get down solid food, you are either not taking small enough bites, not chewing well enough or need a slight unfill. I have only gotten stuck twice and it was my own fault for rushing, otherwise I can eat anything and it is fine.

Yeah I rush when I eat and I don't pay attention either. I am learning it's so hard. It's good for me too, at least I can relax and enjoy what I eat instead of rushing and never tasting. So this is good, I didn't even realize how bad I was with eating fast. I believe I had 1cc in me and I was filled 2cc not sure I was to busy watching the ultr sound machine and my insides then pay attention to my doctor. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
