No...not for a few weeks. My doc said nothing over 15 pounds for 2-3 weeks. Check with your surgeon, but I am sure not for the first 2 weeks. You could tear your sutures loose etc.

I hadn't even thought about that. My son just turned 1 a week ago too and is 22lbs also. I have to be able to hold and cuddle him. :D

My doc said 5lb weight limit for 6 weeks. They are very strict about it. I have a 40lb 4 year old. I can't pick her up for at least that long. They said it was ok for her to climb up in my lap and snuggle though. good luck, Kelli

I'm not sure that it was the best advice, but my surgeon cleared me to lift my 1 year old boy, about 22 pounds as soon as I needed to after surgery. I still had dh lift him for me most of the time.

Florida Pete, you can certainly snuggle and hold your child, just have someone else put him on your lap. You may have to be strategic about where he sits so as not to bump your incisions, but it's certainly doable.

I have an 18 month old that is about 26 pounds. I asked my surgeon and she said there aren't any lifting restrictions, but you need to be careful and only do what you feel comfortable with. I couldn't pick my son up until like week 2 or so...I could sit down and let him crawl up into my lap...after 2 weeks though I was fine...I guess every surgeons suggestion is different so I would ask yours  good luck

Thanks for all the responses!

I think we are going to have to get creative around here! I think I can herd her around the house, if we are on the 1st story.

I think I can get her to hug my neck and I can just drag/pick her up out of the crib, w/o bending and lifting.

Now, getting her into the highchair and bath tub. I haven't figured those out yet.

I am POSITIVE it will all work out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
