Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

One thing this is the first New Years where I can say next year I am going to lose weight and actually succeed at it.....

Good point. When those nosey people that you don't want to share details with ask, I can say it was a New year's resolution! I am amazed at the pushy/nosey people my wife has put up with.

You know I'm so happy to finally be doing something that I know will have a long term results. Can some one help me with all those people you come in contact with who are just plain nosey. I don't feel that I owe anyone an explanation but being a people pleaser has probably led to a lot of my weight. I live in a retirement community and I can not believe the things peole have felt it was ok to say to my face let alone behind my back. I would be lying if I said it hasn't bothered me. I just need an idea of what to say to people who wonder why I am always at the Dr. and what to say after my banding. Some may really care but I think a lot are just using their concern to be nosey. Ideas please Hugs

Hi, This is my first post .........happy to know there are so many Dec bandsters out there--Thanks, Pete for starting the thread---what a wonderful way to begin the new year. I'm scheduled for Dec 4th. and have been glued to this site and others for the past 2 mos.

I HAVE LEARNED A LOT!

I've only told one friend and don't plan to share this with anyone else at this point--I don't want everyone constantly grilling me even if it's with well-meaning intentions.

I'm wondering if there are others

having the surgery who are keeping it quiet.----?

I am also scheduled for Dec 4. I am having mine done in Juarez, Mexico. Where are you going?

I have told everyone and have gotten a lot of support from friends and family. I have just had a few tell me that if I tried this diet or that diet, I wouldn't need to do this. I am so excited about this, I really don't care what they say.

I am getting banded on Dec 22, with 1-week liquid diet. I am only telling one of 4 sister, and my husband of course knows. I am keeping to myself because whenever I have been on a diet everyone is always watching you. Seeing how much you are eating, what you are eating etc. I don't want to go through that anymore. When they notice I am losing weight, I will just say thanks and tell them I am just eating less, and exercising more.

I'm having it done in a local hospital. I feel so fortunate to be able to have it done nearby--especially when reading of all the people who have had to travel across the country or out of the country. My insurance is covering it so I guess that makes all the difference... ..not sure I would have the resolve and commitment to do it otherwise. --although I imagine that self-paying would provide mucho motivation to follow through.

I have waited for 14 months to get this done (insurance ) This week I have the Reflux test Pulminary and cardio, I am just really feeling stressed over these evaluations. Like some ones going to say NO you can't... I had to have emergency Gall Bladder surgery last year and ended up with pnemonia and with my asthma I was sick all winter. Does anyone else have these stressers, like at the last minute someone would say No you can't have the surgery......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
