Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

hi everyone. Just got home from surgery about an hour ago. Went in around 1:30, they changed my time 3 times, got all set up in a bed answered a lot of questions.... finally at 5:15 I was rolled into the ER. I told my anesthesiologist I had been waiting all day to see him. They were having a hardcore conversation in the ER about their cool watches. I was just lol. Pretty soon my eyes started drooping and I was out. Woke up in the recovery room, sooo thirsty, a little pain in my tummy mostly soreness, a lil gas in my shoulder and then they filled me up with some dilaudid and I was on my way. Everything went FINE!!! I was so nervous & I knew I was gonna be ok, but it IS surgery so you do worry. They said I was their star patient of the day. Very little pain, no complaining just a realllllly dry mouth. The nurse came back to help me dres and I was already dressed sitting there. All in All, I'm at home, online, watching a movie. I already took the dogs out & hopefully I wont feel like I got hit by a mac truck in the morning. Thanks for all the support & I am looking forward to hearing everyone else's stories about today.

Good luck to everyone on their way to banded life.

My journey is just beginning!!!! :w00t:

YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!

I got home from surgery about 2:30 pm. My nurse too said I was the best and fastest recovering patient. I woke up with no pain just a sore throat from the breathing tube. I almost didn't think I had surgery because the doctor only made two holes not five. I was like, are u sure I had surgery. All in all, this morning I woke up with a little pain/soreness. Went to the gym and walked the treadmil slowly and rode the bike carefully. I'm determined to work with my band for the rest of my life.

I guess I'm not the first of the 12/17 group to post post surgery :w00t::cursing: I just got home, my surgery started 30 minutes late at 7:30am. I'm off to change my signature and post my message in the surgery day stories and then check in back here.

I had my surgery on 12/16 and I still feel like I was hit by a bus. As I found out, I had a hiatal hernia which ruptured, so the surgern had to sew that up, then he did the band. I feel better today then I did that night, I think that it was mostly the anasthesia. Now I have just a little pain.

I had my surgery on 12/16 and I still feel like I was hit by a bus..

I was asked about my pain in recovery and I said it was about a 5 on the 1-10 scale, so they gave me dillauded. 5 minutes later they asked how it was and I said 4, more dillauded. That helped until I got to my room. I'm not feeling too bad until tried to get up, which was often with all the fluids they were pumping in. I was given liquid percocet in my room and will probably stay on that today, and will see tomorrow. As many people said, I suspect it will get better each day. Oh, I just checked and I didn't gain any weight during surgery as some people do because of all the fluids. I was definitely peeing by the gallon. (sorry for the TMI) I think that is why I'm still sore, so many trips to get up and go.

I have a pain in the center of my chest. I think that its from the hernia. Sometimes it hurts when I swallow too much. I will ask when I go back on monday. They didn't weigh me before my surgery. I forgot all about it but when I stepped on the scale it didn't seem like I gained anything from the surgery.

Thank you

I came home from the hospital yesterday. Things are going well. Pain is manageable, but I'm pretty sore. Got up and around and that REALLY helped get rid of some of the gas pains.

The amazing part is that I am not hungry at all! With the swelling and constant liquids I have zero appetite. All in all it wasn't too bad. I'm still happy to have made the decision to be banded!

Hey everyone, I got banded yesterday the 17th... I think I am the one that got hit by the mack truck! I so admire you that are not hurting and are already able to do stuff! Amazing... I have 6 holes in me and I think more than anything I am having gas pains. It hurts to get up or down but after I am laying down or standing up, it feels really good. My surgery was around 3 pm and I left the hospital around 130 this afternoon. I love the hints about the Gas-x strips, definitely using them. I gained like 4 pounds since yesterday but i know that will soon be gone plus a whole lot more. I have been walking around the hospital and now at home but not more than like 10 minutes at a time. How long were and are some of you able to be up the day after? There is no way I am up to walking my dog yet!!!! Anyway congrats to all and thank you again for all the great posts.

I guess I'm on the lucky side, with some tribute to my surgeon Dr Mikami at OSU. I could have used the Gas-x strips last night, but it really wasn't too bad and its passed now. I managed to lose 5 pounds from the day before surgery to the day after. Today will be 48 hours and I am feeling a lot better.

Just know you discomfort is only temporary. I am a little over a week post op and I feel just as normal as I did prior to the surgery. I had to adjust to the port but now it is not even an issue. The gas is gone, hunger is gone. I was supposed to meet with the surgeon on Wednesday but he got stuck in surgery so I will see him on Monday. I have been walking more, being more active but I have not made it to the gym. I will next week. I did not want to overdo it so I gave myself 2 weeks post op to hit the gym.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
