Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Cali,

Welcome and congrats on your surgery date! We will be banded the same week!

I just finished my Life Skills classes. Passed with flying colors! I have my clearance from the pulmonologist and have had my initial consultation with the cardiologist. I have a stress test scheduled for Monday and an echocardiogram on Tuesday. The joys! At least we'll know everything about our health, though, right?

You will find this website very helpful. So many people pointed me to it and I am very grateful.

Have a great day and good luck on your journey!

Mary:regular_smile:

Hey Mary,

Thats awesome! We should talk since we are so close with our band dates. I cant wait! What an awesome Christmas present huh!?

Well all need all the support we can get. To me the support really enforces the knowledge that we are doing the right thing. Plus then when we do have our weak moments we can be open about it with our support groups and get some of that support we need.

Hi all.....

Like one of you mentioned before about finally getting insurance approval, I finally got the ok for surgery from insurance last week. I was originally scheduled for surgery in August, but insurance denied my request as my BMI was not high enough and they thought my co-morbidities (diabetes, thyroid disease etc) were not severe enough. They also said that the lapband surgery was not a proven, effective procedure. After going through all the pre-op tests and procedures and psych evaluation etc., I was totally crushed by their denial! Fortunately my doctor's office filed an appeal and sent all kinds of documentation on the success of lapband surgery.....and the insurance's decision was reversed! Yay!

Of course, after being denied in early September, I went off the deep end and just started eating again, so I regained the 5% I was required to lose before surgery. I am in the process of losing that again....just about 8lbs to go.

Now with my work schedule, I can't get the surgery until late December or early January. I figure I might as well wait till the holidays are over, not because of the food (since I have to keep the weight steady or my doctor will not let me have the surgery)...but because of the post-surgery stuff......I don't want to take the chance of possibly not feeling well, or whatever during the holidays.

Anyway..........I have to get back to talk to the nutritionist and get my surgery date re-scheduled......

Good luck to all of the December bandsters!

My surgery date is scheduled for December 10th. I can hardly wait!!! The holidays are going to be tough but I know I can do it. I have been on a version of the pre-op diet since Sept. 16th and all is going well. I am glad I have this support group to help me through this.

Welcome all to the December Bandsters! This is an exciting time to get our surgery dates and know that it's finally happening! Congrats to you April on winning the fight with your insurance company! Keep us up to date on your surgery date and just how you doing!

mjenkins, what are you doing for a modified pre-op diet now? I actually have already started having the low carb shakes in the mornings for Breakfast to help prepare myself before I start the full on pre-op diet on Nov 14th. I also have completely cut soda pop out of my diet too since after surgery we are not suppose to have carbination ever again.

Again welcome all!

I started on 4 medifast shakes a day with one meal that consists or 4 oz. of Protein 2 cups lettuce and 1/2 cup green veggies. I must also incorporate 2 tbls. of oil during the day. That is easy right now because I just put it on my salad. Starting in November I will be on 5 shakes a day with no meal. I will still need to get in the 2 tbls. of oil however because I guess that helps with Vitamin absorption. That part will be a bit tricky. 2 tbls. or oil in my shakes does not sound too appealing but oh well if it's what I have to do....I will do it.

Welcome to our new December Bandsters!

I have my surgery set for Dec. 5th. So of course I will be on my liver shrinking diet for Thanks Giving and will be on mushies for Christmas. Early on my wife and couple of other family members suggested that I should have scheduled my surgery for after the holidays but I told them all no. I said I want to move forward with my life and in that change and wasn't going to let this be a big eating fest for me this holiday season. Halloween has already been tough knowing that I don't have to be dieting just yet and all the candy that is around.

Candy has always been a weakness for me. Especially when people are offering it etc etc. They have a candy bowl here at work right by the door and everyone Snacks on it all day. Everytime you have to leave to use the restroom or simply coming and going from work you have to walk right past it. I actually find myself constantly saying no I don't need it. I know that the candy bowl will be continually stocked between now and just after New Years around here. Seems like when it gets low another person buys a bag and dumps it in there. Well I just have to remain strong especially when others are offering it to me.

I am going Dec. 8th with Dr. Kuri. Where in Florida are you??

I have my surgery on Dec. 5th with Dr. Kuri. I fly into San Diego on the 4th and then back out on the 7th. I am in Jupiter, FL which basically is the North end of Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach). Are you in Florida also? I noticed that molinomama is from Pensacola.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
