Hi guys - I'm on 'full liquids' so that means Protein Shakes and soups... I'm finding that I'm pretty hungry at the moment. When I was on the Clear Liquids I was losing LOADS - I know I'm not supposed to be worried about it at the moment though. I noticed that one of you dropped 11 lbs already - what are you doing?? How are you feeling? Have you started going out yet?

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all have had a very merry day. I am one week post op as my surgery was done on the 17th and I am feeling soooo much better! I am still taking my liquid loritab once and sometimes twice a day if the pain gets bad but it hasnt been that awful and each day is getting better. I can finally lay on my right side but my left side still hurts pretty bad and thats the side I have more incisions on. I am still on clear liquids and definitely ready for some new additions into what I am allowed to eat. It has been much easier than I thought it was going to be, and that makes me proud which makes it all the easier! It sounds like some of you around my same date are already eating all liquids and some mushies..that is very interesting and I am really looking forward to my 1st followup since surgery which will this Monday the 29th. I would love to keep in touch with other people as well so we can make this journey together. I wish us all the best.

12-22-08 the day before surgery I was on clear liquids and nothing to eat after midnight.

12-23-08 had to be at hospital 5:45 a.m. went back at 7:45 a.m woke up in my room at 10:30 a.m, I slept for awhile but towards the evening i had walked the halls about 4 times, had 2 Popsicles, had some ice chips and by bed time a little bit of chicken broth. Had some pain in my left side that is where the port is they say it is normal until the stitching heals. so of course had some pain medicine. also had some pain in my shoulder which apparently is normal too.

12-24-08 got released from hospital about 1100 a.m went home and relaxed and slepted.

12-25-08 still feeling some pain in my left side, taking it easy. I haven't had any hunger pains but I have been drinking chicken broth, eating some Jello, Water well ice chip, and drinking a little bit of apple juice.

well that's my story for now thanks for listening and have a very Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all! I am a week out today and still on clear liquids for one more week. I find it amazing how much difference there is between surgeons on their pre-op; surgery time and post op. Mine was a 4 day clear liquid pre-op; hospital overnight; 6 week post op of clear liquid progress to full liquids progress to soft mushies in 2 week intervals. I have little to no pain at this time. I started Protein Drinks after day 3, with a minimum of 60 oz of Fluid per day. I think it would be much easier to tolerate were it not the holidays. I am definitely looking forward to moving to the next stage. Because I know much of my weight change at this time is fluid, I won't weight til I go to see my doc next week. The most exciting part is stopping almost all diabetes meds and having average blood sugars of 85!! What a wonderful Christmas gift that has been. I expect 2009 to be a year of changes and growth (personal not physical!!). Happy Holidays to all!:tongue2:

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... only one day of clear liquids pre-op, and on solid food in week 3, but find myself preferring Soups and yogurt still. My doc puts a fill in the band when he puts it in, so I don't think I've had quite the hell everyone describes. Stupidly, I don't know my band's capacity or how much he started with... will ask when I go see him in 3 more weeks.

Congrats to all on your progress to date! What fun we will all have as we learn to live with our bands and watch the pounds peel off!

Hi All,

I was banded a month ago tomorrow! I am on Stage 5 of the post op diet as of tomorrow, real food but soft stuff. I'm done with this ground Protein stage! Does anyone have any suggestions on what to start with on the last stage? And how long did it take some of you to get an adjustment? I feel like I can eat more than I should, it says to have 3 oz of protein but I can have almost 5 oz. Is that good or bad? Does anyone else have almost like a heartburn sensation if ou do overeat? Also - how do you get the weight loss ticker to load on this thing? good luck to everyone with their weight loss goals!! :tongue2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
