Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I have not had a bm since the day or 2 before surgery...is this normal? Do you think I should take something for this?

I was banded the same day as you, I had my first today. Take a took softener so you don't have to strain.:tongue_smilie:

also, has anyone had any nausea? And what did you take for it? I have had a tiny tiny bit today, and I'm 3 days out from surgery.

No, but they did give me pepcid at the hospital. I think there are two kinds of pepcid, one is pepcide complete, I think the regular one is what they recommend.

I cant take this GAS!

I know exactly what you mean... the pain has gone up to my shoulder and it makes me want to cry. The Gas X strips seem to help a tiny bit but....not enough.

Also I cant rid of this "full" feeling, so much as to I dont want to eat or drink anything and I know I need to. Any sugggestions on that?

My Dr. gave me a suppository the night before surgery. I had my surgery on the 17th and have not had to have a BM since I am only on liquids.

I woke up last night passing gas, but haven't had pain at all.

My stitches are my concern. I flew home the day after the surgery due to the weather and 3 if my entry areas have had a small streak of blood under that plastic tape.

I am trying to just do bedrest to help them heal. But, I know that walking makes for a better recovery. Do you think it's better to sit up straight or lie flat on my back for the stitches?

If I bent to the right it feels like stinging inside the scar area. And the incision is raised alittle. Any ideas on healing creams, etc? I have a large aloe plant..would that help on surgical healing???

this is some of my band story so far...I posted to the other dec forum, but thought I would hit this one too.

Here it is a snowy Saturday in Iowa. I have been banded since wednesday the 17th. That day went pretty fast but then again seemed kinda long also....!

WOW, 2 surgeries at once does sound painful but both i'm sure will benefit you in the long run. I got banded on Dec. 11th and from what I've heard and my own experience having a delayed BM is normal. As far as recovery I think you just need to give yourself a little extra time considering what you've just been through. Our bodies are all different and will heal at a different pace. I was forced to feel better sooner since I have 3 children that I had to care for. Just remember you can't judge your recovery time or success against anyone else's since we are all different. Good luck in your journey! :tongue_smilie:

I've had the gas pain, rumbling stomach, shoulder pain, and loose stools as well. Nothing that would keep me down, but definitely experiencing the same. As well, my port site has a small layer of blood under the paper, so I would guess that's relatively normal.

I'm 4 days post op and getting in my liquids fine. Today I have experienced being short of breath...or rather I feel as though I can't take in a deep breath. Is this what being tight feels like???

Fortunately I am not physically hungry at all, but have had the occasional head hunger (which subsides almost immediately). It has been quite an experience to not be able to reach for food. I always knew that I was a "tester" when I cooked, but never realized how prominently different life would be not being able to do so.

All in all, I'm very happy to have done this. I'm down 4 pounds in as many days and almost 20 overall. It's been years since I was able to lose 20 pounds!

I wonder the same thing! I guess these are things we dont think to ask while we are still in the hospital. I have 6 incisions sites.. not sure which one is port...

Hi fellow bandsters!

I was banded on 12/18/08 and just came home from the hospital yesterday.

Yesterday was tough- the gas pains suck! I wanted to rip my shoulder off.

I also can´t tell if I am full. Sometimes it hurts under my ribs. Is that the ¨full¨ feeling that I am supposed to get?

I´ve been doing Jello, broth and strained Miso Soup. Just sent the hubby to the store to get sugar free popsicles. Does anyone know if they make sugar-free fudgesicles?

I see the surgeon for a follow-up on Monday- not sure what to expect.

Also, my tummy is making all kinds of noises- like I am hungry, but I don´t know if I am or not. Is it normal to be able to eat an entire cup of Jello at this point?

Looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Esmerelda

my port is just below my rib cage on the left side -- it's where the larger incision is -- it will be swollen and sore longer there than anywhere else but as the swelling goes down you'll be able to feel it.

for the gas, shortness of breath, and the full feeling -- it will begin to pass the second week IF you move around -- as soon as you feel up to it, get up and move around -- and drink water! The shortness of breath was for me, the gas pushing against my lungs and diaphragm -- a deep breath and it will pass -- but it hurts -- and the full feeling -- that's the swelling in your tummy where the band is -- I talked with a friend who was banded in March and she said that your whole stomach swells and tries to rebel against the band and that's the full feeling...once I knew that I kind of stopped stressing over it and began to feel better. The biggest thing is learning the difference between hunger and real pain -- that was hard for me -- now that a lot of the swelling has gone down though, I can tell the difference. Take the pain meds -- that's why they give them to you -- sleep a lot and move a lot -- that will help more than anything.....I feel great and I won't be 2 weeks out until Tuesday!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
