Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

To unsure 15:

Where in Mexico are you going? I was banded 12/2 in Monterey and had a great experience. I have nothing but rave reviews for the hospital and staff there. As a self pay, I couldn't afford the physician fees locally, so I had to opt for Mexico. If money wasn't an issue, knowing what I know now, I would have still opted for Mexico.

Best wishes for a great trip and successful surgery.

December 15th @ 7:30am, performed by Dr. Keith Gersin @ Carolina's Medical Center Mercy. :3 I'm SOOO excited!!!

Already had my first nightmare about it. In the dream, I had to take two exams (I'm a full-time college 5th year student) and failed them both with a 60. Gersin wouldn't perform the surgery, so he called my parents in to interview them seperately. When it finally came time for me to get the results, I went into the office (which morphed into my parents bedroom) and he was laying in bed, asking me to turn out the lights. I was ENRAGED, in my hospital gown and panties, all ready to go. I thought perhaps he wanted to see some passion, to see that I really cared about the procedure, so I started screaming and carrying on about how I'd just gone 14 days without eating (remember, I'm dreaming) and how there's no way in heck I would leave without a band!!!

LOL! Anxieties much? Yeah...

I'm a December Bandster...down for 12/19. I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet and have had 'little indiscretions' every day. A few crackers here, goldfish there... Why am I doing this if I can't even stick to the pre-op plan. I am scared...But I have lost 4 lbs as of today despite my best efforts so I won't give up just yet. Also, I'm VERY grouchy...anyone who says this is the easy way out is insane.

Well got banded last thursday ..the forth:thumbup: And I would have to say the whole thing hasn't been that bad. I personally found the 2 week shake thing easy ..but then I have four children so it made eating quik and simple.

Waking up after surgery totally sucked and I dry heaved a little but after that I was ready to get home..I'm just alittle sore now but the meds help...I do keep have weird sensations though just under my breast bone Ii feels like something tightning and then it goes away:wink2: But liked I said its not that bad!

My surgery is Tuesday and I am up and down. I read the posts and they help a lot. I see different experiences after surgery and I wonder what mine will be....that is the nervous part. I guess we all walk the plank eventually. I am trying to stay calm and collected. I worked hard getting all the pre-approval things done and now I am approved and scheduled, it is scary. I want this and now that is here I have to finish. Keep me in your thoughts, Tuesday's scheduled bandster.

ibtrouble, Please try the Protein powders and liquids. GNC carries some and others are available on-line. It helped me a LOT with between meal eating. Also, find some thing to do away from the food. It helps. I too, got short with DD early on. It happens. Just focus on the prize. Rememeber it is only for a short while.

GI Jane, Good Luck. 2nd thoughts are normal. Get on-line and talk to us. Be positive. I cleaned house like mad to keep busy the day before. Pray or meditate; It helps. Be positive. Drink Water up until Midnight the night before, or whatever cutoff time your surgeon gave. Take slippers/warm socks with you. Bring a robe. The nurses here did not recommend wearing your own nightgown/PJs as they will be poking, prodding and swabbing your tummy. The hospital gowns are easier for all. Get any liquid meds you may need now. Stay on top of the pain- the nurses stressed it was easier to maintain a level of comfort than try to get it back. I'm short and since surgery, it hurts to bend over - so got an extended reach- grabber; it helps:thumbup:

Good Luck, GiJane! You're going to do great. Keep remembering why you wanted this bad enough to go through everything you did to get here. We're all with you and sending positive thoughts your way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
