Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I'm up on December first - just over a week away now. I'm excited - I've already dropped weight, and I'm looking forward to getting banded and dropping more!

Plus, to be honest, I'm looking forward to the 'mushy' stage of eating - I'm so sick of liquids! pureed chicken will be a treat, lol.

Wow! I am on my second day of pre-op and my pre-op diet is way worse then yours. I can only have 30 gr of carbs and 60 gr. Protein a day. I looked at Healthy Choice dinners and they start at 35 gr of carb's. I 'm having a hard time finding a meal other than the shakes. Any ideas?

You might try the south beach diet dinners. They are high protein, low carb. I think eggs fit the bill as well. If you go to sparkpeople.com, you can put in what food it is and it will tell you how much protein, fat, and calories it has. It's pretty cool. Other than that, I'd try eating chicken breasts and veggies. Fish is good low cal, high proten. Shrimp too. I'm not sure how restricted your diet is.

It really has become a count down for many of us now! I can hardly believe that my surgery is only next Friday!!! I've been working so hard on my pre-op diet and making sure to get out walking every day. It is so exciting seeing so many others showing up with December dates also! We are all getting a real Holiday treat like no other any of us have ever had!

Congrats on getting your date set Bill!

Let me ask you about going to Mexico for this. Do you know the type of band they are using and have a place to get fills in the future?

They use the Allergen Lap-Band system. Dr. Kuri also offers free fills if you come back to his location. But for those of us like me you have to find a fill center in your area. For me I have to travel to Ft. Lauderdale for my fills which is about an hour away. My coordinator for my surgery actually sent me a list of people in my area that do fills. Any more questions you have please feel free to ask away.

I tell you what I have tried a few different brands of the shakes and I really have found the Atkins to be one of the best. Unjury is pretty good too but you have to order that online. I can't say myself but others have mentioned that the Kirkland Brand (Costco) is pretty decent.

I got my date today, Dec 17th! wow! my hospital didn't give me much of a chance to get mentally prepared, which can be a good thing! I have been waiting for them to get their garbage together for months! I need to purchase some Protein Shakes, the hospital gave me some samples of Unjury and nectar(?) and the only one I liked was a chocolate nectar. I tried the unjury plain in diet pop, it didnt work, tasted awful. Any suggestions? Lets do this together! think healthy skinny thoughts. Those are what motivate me...go out and buy women's fitness magazines (or mens fitness), shape magazines ....hang out where "skinny" healthy people hang out, watch shows with physically fit people in them, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and its calling our names! good luck to everyone, please keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
