Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I know it seems like December is a ways off but really it's just less then two months away. I finalized my surgery date yesterday for Dec. 5th with Dr. Kuri. So are there any others out there with December dates looking for support and help?

LOL I think I would have to agree with that. Christmas shopping, decorating, crowded malls, family visits, etc etc...

I am a lot more calm and prepared for this surgery then I am for the holidays!

Hi everyone!

I'm getting my lap band dec. 4th and i think the hard part will be the holiday's also. It is all about food and family. I just don't want to fail. And from what i read the first 6 weeks can be pretty trying. But, also we have to look at this as a start to a new chapter in our lives this forum is going to be a big help!

Hello!!! :wink2:

It appears I will be banded either late November or early December. I prefer December as I see this procedure as a Christmas gift to me. The gift a health.

I need to complete the upper GI and the H-pylori test. Then the paper work is sent to BCBS for insurance approval. Then I go on the pre-op diet and then I have surgery. :cursing:

Did anyone have troubles getting scheduled so far out in December?

I originally wanted to do the surgery in the beginning of November but due to scheduling conflicts I needed to wait until December. My surgeon didn't have his schedule set until the beginning of October so I had to wait about a month before I could finalize my surgery date. Thankfully I did get the December date that I was asking for.

Hello! I am going through all of the pre-op and clearances. My surgery date has been set for December 23rd (which is also my wedding anniversary!). I am excited and a little nervous. We have decided to Celebrate Christmas on December 20th so that I (hopefully) won't feel that I missed out on the holidays. My family is very supportive of this which surely helps a lot!!

Hey there,

My surgery date is Dec 22nd... I CANT WAIT! Not that I am not nervous but I am so ready for this! I had a bit of a problem waiting until Dec (i'm in nursing school and had to wait until christmas break) but they worked with me :) Actually just finalized my date today. A bit overwhelmed, glad I found this site!

Congrats on getting your date set! I too am excited for my surgery and look forward to a new change in life. Sure there is always a nervousness with getting any surgery done. That's why I try not to worry about it to much. Plus I have a great wife that is very supportive of the changes that I have to do with this.

Cali,

Welcome and congrats on your surgery date! We will be banded the same week!

I just finished my Life Skills classes. Passed with flying colors! I have my clearance from the pulmonologist and have had my initial consultation with the cardiologist. I have a stress test scheduled for Monday and an echocardiogram on Tuesday. The joys! At least we'll know everything about our health, though, right?

You will find this website very helpful. So many people pointed me to it and I am very grateful.

Have a great day and good luck on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
