Hi

I was banded by Dr Chris de Bruyne in August. In my opinion I cant see what all the fuss is all about. Yeah he offered to operate on someone who was a few pound under the BMI of 30. I dont know about you but I could put on a few pound in a matter of days, no problem. Its not as if the guy was a few stone under weight. The only thing this BBC broadcast has done is made people more aware that if you get refused in the UK due to being "so called no fat enough", then go to Belgium, and the price is a lot cheaper too.

Dr de Bruyne is a fantastic surgeon and I have the upmost respect for him.

whats really interesting here is, with a BMI of 42 I was refused banding by the NHS because I only had high blood pressure and nothing else, like diabetese. Although my doctor said I was high risk.

So I had to go and abroad and use Dr Chris for the surgery and haven't looked back. This isn't talked about, only one side of the story, so no balance applied.

Anyone looking at the film will instantly say greedy man, but hey what he siad was not illegal, merely assisting someone wishing comsmetic surgery.

Hey i also think Dr Chris is the best i was banded 5wks ago today and had my first fill with him yesterday its like englishrose said its not like the guy was underweight and its everyones personal choice to have obesity surgery and also for the NHS to refuse keving the op with a BMI of 42 just shows u the NHS dont offer the services to all who need them and we are left with no choice... Anyone reading this who hasnt been to belgium for the op the hospital is shining NO MRSA and excellent staff they would put irish and british hospitals to shame and then we come to the cost it's a rip off cost in ireland and uk for me to have op in ireland i was quoted 2prices of €11500 and €15000 WHY is it so expensive here but anyway DR Chris De Bruyne has changed the lives of so many people in a positive way including me im 5wks out and 2stone 1lb down and already so much more positive about my life and future i think the BBC report painted going to belgium for the op in a very bad picture and not fair on this wonderful surgeon who is one of the leading obesity surgeons in europe!!!

I am still waiting for my consult with my surgeon to be banded on the NHS, if I dont get funding, I was thinking of travelling to Belgium to have my surgery through Dr. Chris, He has been recommended by several aquaintances.

I know this documentary looks a little seedy but it just may be their companies way of settle their expenses. Remember when you go private in the UK, it is not the surgeon who receives the full payment, he is only paid a fee to operate on the patient. I think Dr. Chris is just cutting out the middleman, as such. He will be paying the clinic and its staff from his fees.:wink2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
