First Fill Experience... :|

Recommended Posts

Okay so yesturday I went in for my first fill and I was extremely nervous!!! I was told don't worry the lady doing your fill is our "best"! Okay...still super nervous. So she asked me some questions and told me that they put 3ccs in when I had the band put in so she was going to add 2ccs for a total of 5 ccs...fantastic . So I lay down and she feels for my port and then tells me to hold my legs up until she tells me. She pushes in the needle...no pain at all...but she couldn't get it into my port...after abour 2-3 minutes of her wiggling the needle around trying to get it into the access point. Painful...pretty painful. She finally had me rest my legs and pulled the needle out. She said that she had to poke me again...So she poked in the needle a second time. Again she didn't get it into the port. a few more minutes of moving around the needle she finally got it into the access point of the port.... *sigh* Did anyone else have a similar experience???? I hope my next fill goes better...

Yep! That sounds just like mine! I've had two and both times they had trouble with the port.

My PA poked on my stomach to find the exact placement, but she only had to sick me the one time to put the fill in and then again to pull a little out. Neither time hurt, but pulling the band aid off did!

Yeah she pushed on my tummy and said your port is right here...and then she kept say oh I'm sorry we have to go in at the exact right angle....

Don't worry, it wasn't that bad and it only hurts for a minute. You have already been through the surgery, that's the worst part!

I had my first fill about 3 weeks ago. The doc. doing my fill used a floroscope so she got in the first time. I did have some pain however due to some scar tissue. I plan on using her everytime but if something happens and I can't I will only use a doc. that does the floroscope. They can see exactly where the port is and where they are putting the needle. Hope next time is easier!

I've had 3 fills so far with 3 different people doing them. I was a little nervous since I had watched one being done on You Tube.

But it was not bad at all. My doc's office deadens the port area with a tiny little needle, so when the larger fill needle goes in, you don't feel it at all. So if they have trouble getting access into the port & have to stick you again, you don't feel anything but a little pressure. They do sometimes put you in an awkward position on the table. They sometimes put a pillow under my low back, so I'm arched to make the port easier to find. Last time they had me raise my head like I was halfway in a sit-up, to make the port protrude. That was more uncomfortable than the stick.

Hi, I had my first fill today, only one poke but 2-3 minutes of exploration before she found the actual spot she wanted. I was told that the swelling in the are could be a cause and should be better the next time. Hope so!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
