Hi,

I am so glad to have found this site. This has been a God-send. Reading all of your comments has helped me tremendously - Thanks.

I am only 4 days post-op, but still feeling so tight in my chest. I burp all the time and occasionaly have shoulder pain. Is this all normal? I can barley drink liquid without feeling miserable. I think I'm drinking approx 2-3cups of Water a day, About 1/2 C sf Jello a day and am getting about 4-6 g protein(shake) a day. This is much tougher than I ever anticipated.

I'm a mom of 3 kids, so I have to keep my energy levels up somehow to still be mommy.

So far I've lost 13 lbs, but I'm sure it's all Water weight.

Please Help!

Gratefully,

DianaS

I was just recently banded on 9/15/08 and I went through the same thing. It is normal for you to have trouble burping along with the gas in your chest. I actually went to the ER the pain was so bad. Just be sure to walk every hour around your living room for as ong as you can. My chest pain finally subsided after 1 week and a 1/2. You will be fine and congrats on your weightloss!!!!!

Yes, this is normal. I did still had nausea and that tightness until about 8 days post op. The pain in your shoulders is gas and walking helps the best for that. I was only consuming about 500 calories aday until about my 10th day post op. Everyone is different but what you are experiencing is not uncommon. Of course, if you are concerned you need to speak with your surgeon and/or his/her nurse.

Good luck on you venture. It is truly worth it!

Dear Malvo12 and Cardinal55,

What a comfort to know I'm not alone. Thank you for your response as it's so hard to be patient. Especially when each day feels like a week! I will give it another few days before jumping ahead in my thoughts. I know this surgery was a blessing and I want to do my very best at being successful.

You are such an inspiration. I will follow one step behind you.

Thanks.

DianaS

Nope you're not alone! Walking helped me get rid of the tightness in my chest. That stupid pain would get me when I'd go to lie down and rest... But I'm a week out today and doing GREAT!

I am 3 weeks post op and doing very well! It does get better trust me. I've already lost 30 pounds(16 with my pre op diet and 14 post op). I was eating so poorly for 10 days I think that's why I lost so quickly. This past week I lost 2 pounds which is about right. I'm one of the lucky ones who already feels the restriction. I can't eat more then an 1/2 cup of food for my meals......... I don't get hungry until it is meal time. That is so awesome to me. My surgeon told me every one is different, some feel the restriction right away and don't need a fill for a few months, others are hungry still.

This truly is the best think I have ever done for myself!:tt1: Today I started walking more and walked a mile but my legs got all wobbly so I guess I have got to build some stamina back up as I was walking 2 miles a day before my surgery. After 6 weeks I will rejoin Curves and start a more vigorous excerise routine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
