Two weeks post-op...what does the port feel like?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I had surgery two weeks ago and all appears well. I have been a little aggressive on the 'pace' of moving from Clear Liquids to full liquids to pureed/soft foods ~ but always very limited quantities [measured by the tablespoon]. I've never had any stomach pain or weird feelings so I hope everything is OK in there. After surgery my doctor said my port was right in the center... under my under-wire bra band. I can see the incision but I don't think I can feel the port. Can someone tell me what the port should feel like? I'm also feeling a little guilty about not following exactly the diet and I'm afraid I might have done something to impact the band. Anyone else have consequences of not behaving? Can you please share? I'm starting to get a little paranoid!

Thanks in advance for your input!

My port is on my left side and is very obvious - it sticks up like an egg under my skin - after I get a fill it sticks up more from swelling - doctor thinks it will eventually go down but because the scar above it is still red and raised (only 3 months out) it makes the lump underneath more noticeable - I can honestly say I love the band but HATE the port.

I was banded on 9/22 and last week I could feel my port. I feel it when I walk and bend over. This is a huge yuck for me. It's on my right side about 4" under my breast. I wasn't prepared for this. But I am told it's normal.

Oh my, I haven't been banded yet. But my husband had the concern of whether the port would be very noticeable. We have a wonderful intimacy and I don't wanna ruin that with a honking bubble under my boob, ya know. Does it ever go down or does it become more noticeable with the weight loss. I don't think it'll be the deal breaker I just need to smooth him into it ya know let him know what to expect. Thanks for information.

OK, Cleo's Mom, we were banded around the same time so I can compare to you. I guess I've lost my port ~ just joking. I kinda feel 'something' in the same area you are referencing. About 4 inches under my right breast. I'm squimish about feeling around. I guess when the doctor or PA said the port was in the middle [she pointed to the top middle incision] I just assumed that was where the actual port was. I can't feel anything there. So, when I leave work, I guess I'll start looking for the port or at least determine if that weird feeling IS my port!

Thanks to everyone for replying!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
