Hello...Doing a little Band research....

Recommended Posts

Greetings! My name is Karin, and I'm just doing some reading up on getting banded. I'm 5' 5" and 240lbs.My BMI is like 39.43. I haven't been able to keep ANY significant weight off for long periods of time for years. I'm tired and frustrated with WW and the not even losing a pound every 2 weeks thing. UGH! This will be my 3rd trip down the WW path in 5 years. Not to mention the various Atkins and South Beach aattempts! Anyways enough about that. I'm looking forward to picking everyone's minds and hopefully getting to know y'all better! Thanks for listnening!

Thanks for being so welcoming. I'm going to a Lap-Band info seminar on July 19th locally here in Pinellas County FL. Everybody's positive outlooks and postings have really made me more encouraged to proceed.

Dr Rehnke is awesome, and his partner Dr Grossbard, I assume by the date and county that is the seminar you are going to....

Welcome! We have a lot of information on this board, take some time and read through some of the older posts as well as the new ones. I would say we pretty much cover almost any subject/question you might have and then some! :D:D:D

Just out of curiosity, are the people that are going to Mexico for the surgery, doing so because they're self-paying? And I assume it's a lot cheaper there than it is here.

Yes Jenn, the seminar is with Rehnke and Grossbard. I feel better that someone here has heard of them and has positive feedback on them. From their website it appears that they've done quite a few bands. Is that who you went through?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
