I got a check in the mail today reimbursing me for all the payments I made to the Surgery Center. I can't believe it! It was for $725 and some change. Wow. I knew that it should be coming, but never thought I'd actually see it.

Apparently, this surgery center didn't have things set up right with the insurance company and they weren't allowed to bill for the procedure that I had. Because it was their mistake, the insurance paid them nothing and my liability was nothing.

I was actually really bothered by this at first and told the insurance woman that it felt dishonest to me to have the surgery center receive nothing for my surgery. She said that it was the surgery center's fault and that it was between the insurance and the center and that it wasn't something I needed to worry about. It sounded like it's something that happens sometimes and it didn't seem like it was all that big of a deal to them. To me it sure was!

This is such a blessing right now because I'm out of work. Also, my husband is trying to relocate and even though his company will move us, it's still going to cost money to move with deposits and everything. Also with Christmas coming up, our savings account is low and so this money is so needed right now. Huge sigh of relief!

Yeah Shinyhappy - given your circumstances, this is great indeed! I know all about the incidental moving expenses that you have even if a company moves you; best to keep that money safe for that.

Shiny - It's so good to hear about something wonderful happening for you. Well, something other than all the weight you lost.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
