Mind vs Body

Recommended Posts

I'm having to struggle with my mind vs my body. I really want to eat! I know it's just a habit I have to break, but I really want to. My Dr wants me to eat 3 meals a day...but I really struggle! How long will it be until my mind and body line up?

Right now I'm can eat a lean quizine meal and feel full, and that feeling last for maybe 2hr and then I feel like I'm starving again. Should I eat, or should I wait?

What do you do?

Hi Aileena, I would say listen to your body. Have a small healthy snack. Don't starve yourself, if you are like me, I get into HUGE TROUBLE if I wait to eat and am ravinous. Things get stuck...

The instructions I got from the nutrtionist include 3 meals and 2 Snacks. So V-Queen said...eat a healthy snack (try to make it protien). This will keep you from getting overly hungry and also protien helps hold off hunger.

I'm still just book learned though (pre band here)

More Protein in your diet will help curb hunger...

check the lean cuisine for carbs,

Carbs crave more carbs and sugar craves more sugar so if your carb intake & sugar intake is high it will make you hungry quicker and more often

I start each day with stirctly protein and that stays with me most of the day, I eat Breakfast at 7 since Iam at work at 5 up at 3:30 but do not eat again until about 1 or 2

but if I eat a single carb in the morning like toast or oatmeal.. forget it, Iam starving all day long and have a bad food day.

Try using the natural Peanut Butter as a snack! It stops the sweet craving and sticks to your ribs. I just eat a spoonful or so and that usually does the trick. The natural peanut butter has less sugar so less carbs.

My advice would be to avoid lean cuisines/smart ones,etc.....i have eaten those and they NEVER make me feel full--if so im usually starving in a half hour!Even before my surgery i could probably eat 4 lean cuisines and feel semi-satisfied, LOL. I like "real"food--i had a turkey hot dog in a bun and some whesat thins and i was stuffed! I love turkey hambergs too.

plus there is a LOT of salt in those frozen "entrees" which isnt healthy in itself!

thats just my advice i hope it helps!!Best of luck

P.S.---A lot of times the craving for sweets or bad food gets so bad i just grab something, but latley ive tried remembering what my mom told me--you have worked so hard, and been through so much pain through this surgery and you can DO THIS. Don't keep giving into Snacks,etc...

But,again obviously there are lots of times where you just have to eat extra,or something not on the "list'!

alright,i think im done my rambling!!!!LOL

Good luck (again)!!!! =)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
