Banding in St. Louis

Recommended Posts

I would like to hear from anyone banded in St Louis - where they went - what doctor they used. Anyone that was a self pay - and the price range. Thanks in advance!

I am getting banded in STL on Nov. 19th by Dr. Norbert Richardson. I am going through St. Alexius' New Start program -- St. Alexius NewStart

So far it's been a great experience and they have a ton of aftercare post-surgery programs -- support groups, classes, nutrition help.

I was banded 9/26 by Dr. de la Torre at DePaul. I was also self pay. PM me if you want to discuss costs and payment stuff. I'll be happy to share that and of course my experiences...which have been great so far.

Hi there! I was banded 3/21/08 by Dr. Van Wagner and I also went through the St. Alexius New Start program. If I had to do it over again I would have chosen to do the outpatient surgery instead of staying overnight in the hospital. I was self-pay and Dr. Wagner takes CareCredit--my surgery was about $15,000 and that included a lifetime of band adjustments.

I love Dr. Wagner and his office staff. They are very helpful and very responsive to your needs. Dr. Wagner is sort of quiet and reserved but his bedside manners are excellent. It has taken me a little longer than most to get to where I'm at (total of 26 lost now) but I'm okay with that. It just took a little longer for my band to be restricted the perfect amount! If you have more specific questions let me know and I'll try to help ya out!

Megan

I was banded by Dr. Darin Minkin at Des Peres Hospital. My insurance paid, but he quotes the self-pay price as $17,000, I believe. I had surgery on 2/28 of this year and I've already lost 104 lbs. I attribute much of my success to Dr. Minkin because he's aggressive with fills (which are usually done under fluoro) and he's very supportive. I highly recommend attending one of his seminars to meet him.

I also was banded by Dr. Wagner. I had my surgery as outpatient at Webster Surgery Center. Dr. Wagner now uses a new out patient center. I agree with the other person Dr Wagner's staff is great. Dr. Wagner seems a little shy and is reserved but he is a good doctor and knows his stuff.

I have also met with Darin Minkin in Des Peres hospital and he is a good doctor and very supportive. I was fortunate to have insurance coverage for my surgery. I think Dr. Wagner is around $15,000 but when you think that you get your life and health back it is worth it. I am now 29 pounds from a normal BMI. I have no regrets about getting the band. It is a tool and you still need to watch what you eat and exercise. I exercise a lot. I finally have time to do it. My first job got in the way now I have more time to work out. I ride my bike and I go to Curves and do weight and resistance training. I have not weighed what I now weigh in 10 or 11 years.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
