Female Surgery 10/15

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery on October 15 to have my left ovary removed. My OB/GYN is aware that I have been banded and seems unconcerned. (He says he won't even be in the same vicinity.) My question is - what about the anesthesiologist? Also - what about the surgeon who did my lap band? Should I call him in advance to get his take on this surgery and if it will affect my band?

It should be in your chart but anesthesia? Shouldn't matter. The tube will stop well before it reaches your stomach and it's concerned with your lungs, anyway, not your GI Tract. You should still be able to sip liquids after recovery and so on...if you are well restricted and can't take certain pills, just tell them you can't take pills over XYZ size (like someone said nothing larger than an m & m...use whatever works for you!)

Just make sure that they have your band and port location in your chart, and tell the nurses in preop to make sure the info is where they can access it quickly!

If you are going to be in a while make sure they know you need a specific diet (ie soft?) if that's important to you. Otherwise, No big deal! :crying:

Hi:

Not a bad idea to call your lap band surgeon and keep him posted. You may want to discuss anti-nausea precautions with him for before and after the surgery. You don't want to have nausea brought on by anesthesia hinder your recovery.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
