Hi my name is Desi, and I finall had the surgery, 2 weeks ago. Yipee! Well I thought. I started off good. Lost some weight and it shocked me. Then after a while the Protein Shakes weren't filling me up and I was constantly hungry. I tried ignoring it, but the growling wouldn't let me. I ate a sandwich. I was just gonna bite it but once I did, I counldn't stop. Now I feel terrible. I'm hoping I didn't mess up anything and have to go back to hospital for more surgery. Can you please help with some advice?

What you are going through is totally normal.

After the swelling has gone down your stomach is basically like it was before the surgery (until you get restriction with the fills). Some people never need fills and they have restriction for a long time, but you are like me. I lost that restriction after about 7 days. It is odd that you were suppose to be on just shakes for 2 weeks after. My doctor did one week of liquids and then one week of mushies like refried Beans, cream Soups, Jello, etc. I definitely would not have eaten bread as my first thing back, but you should be alright. but don't do it again. The bread expands. Something I tried at two weeks was tuna with light miracle whip on whole grain crackers. I chewed that up really good and it filled me up and wouldn't expand. I'm not sure what plan your doctor has you on though. But the last thing you want is to mess up that pouch. I'm not a doctor, but, most likely you will be fine. But, definitely let your doctor know what happened, ok. If I were you, I'd just get rid of the bread alltogether so there are no temptations. (If you can)

When you eat food (like a sandwich!) your stomach churns to digest it. That's why we are supposed to forgo certain things for a while...to allow things to heal. For most of us part of the stomach is pulled up (or down, depending on surgeon) over the band and it is sewn into place. At 2 weeks post op that churning stomach MAY have torn loose one or more of those stitches. Even if you don't have trouble now you may get slippage or erosion down the road because of that. I agree, call your doc and do what s/he says. Most of us get hungry post op; that's why they call it "Bandster Hell". You just have to get through it. Please call your doc; I hope he thinks you're ok.

I"m also new. I've jumped through all the hoops and I have my surgery date: October 16! I'm feeling exhilarated, nervous, anxious and hopeful all at once! It took me a long time to come to this decision, but after about 8 years of "not wanting gastric bypass" I finally read a great book by Khalia Ali about the banding procedure and learned that the weight comes off slower, but after 2 or 3 years, has the same weight loss as the gb. So...I went for it. I'm wondering what it will be like to be without joint pain, to have more energy, to do 100's of things I didn't allow myself to do or was to heavy to do. I'm wondering what it will be like to say goodbye to my 100lb overweight self! :) Is anyone else feeling this way?

Well, with almost 60 lbs lost for me, it is AMAZING! it use to be so painful just to walk around, rolling over in bed at night.. sitting in a chair. I suffer from arthritis in my lower lumbar, and knees and the weight off those two areas I feel light as a feather now when I walk. I read somewhere that for every pound you lose, it takes four pounds of pressure off your knees and I believe it. I still have like 80 something more pounds to go, but let me tell ya, just after like 30 lbs the difference was amazing! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I will let my doc know. I can eat Jello and broth also. But I had eaten all my food earlier that day and was taking my son home. I'm sad to say I feel like I attacked him with his food.:crying:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
