Hello,

I am in Richmond Va. and just went to the group seminar Thursday and am going to call to schedule my consult tomorrow...I am very excited yet nervous about this...I have a severe amount to loose - I weigh somewhere over 500 lbs - so I have very long journey ahead of me...

I have been reading a lot of the posts on here...I find it interesting that people try to keep it a secret from family and friends...

I guess I am lucky...my mom encouraged me to attend the seminar and even went with me...as I get closer to having the surgery I will probably tell my close friends about it...I know they want to see me loose the weight and if they know my situation they can help keep me on track when I am with them...

Hi, well I am excited for you too. Don't focus too much on numbers, before you know it you'll be feeling better and be able to move alot easier.

I am just goiong to my 1st seminar on Tuesday nite. I don't even know if my insurance is going to pay some or not. I feel that I must do something because I am type 2 diabetic and take 2 shots a day of byetta med. I'm sick of taking these shots and I think that if I loose enough weight I can stop the meds.

Good luck,

Chrissy

Hi clb. I am lucky too. I also have a very supportive family. My mother flew to Houston with me to have my surgery. Try not to focus on how much you have to lose. Just remember that you have made a decision that will make you happier and healthier and take one baby step at a time. Little goals. Good luck to you - you can do it!!!! Keep us posted!! Becky

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
