slynclark 0 Posted October 6, 2008 I am getting really scared because I feel like for the past 3 days all the new posts popping up on the home page of the site are negative. Everyone isn't losing weight...or has only lost 10lbs. I guess I need some support from people who have lost alot and are/were well educated as I am going to be about the whole surgery process. HarleyGirl 1 Posted October 6, 2008 A lot of people are doing GREAT! Keep it in perspective....when you are struggling is when you will generally really seek input or support through the website....when you're doing fantastic, the check-ins are sometimes not as often....you know...no news is good news, so you won't always see those posts! The band is an amazing tool....learn how to use it and do your very best to follow the band rules and I'd be willing to be you'll do great as well!
Bama2 0 Posted October 6, 2008 I enjoy reading the post from everyone but have really been amazed at the different weight loss amounts for everybody. I just want to lose quickly, although I didn't put it all on overnight. Nervous about surgery on Tuesday but looking forward to a better life.
Great2BThin 5 Posted October 6, 2008 How's this?? I got banded 4 mos ago today, I am down a total of 70 lbs. I am off all medications. I can shop in a regular size store. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. People aren't recognizing me. It's the best decision I ever made. Is it easy? no. But very doable. I follow my dr's nutrition info very closely, exercise and go to support groups. Good luck to you!
meschultz 0 Posted October 6, 2008 Slynclark,,, Here is one.. i was banded less then a week ago and i have lost 8lbs since surgery. Not I am not trying to loose weight right now because this is the healing process, but I am following all my doctors orders and i am not pushing things.. Yes you will have some pain afterwards and yes you may suffer Constipation and yes you may loose slower then others, but you have to believe the band is only a tool and you have to want to use it properly to loose the weight.. Follow every instruction your doctors give you.. Remember they are the professionals.. If you ever have questions or the need to deviate call your doctor and discussed whatever issues or changes you have... Best of luck and I wish you a successful journey
Kalipso2 25 Posted October 6, 2008 i can definitely understand how reading about other people's struggles would be scary and that's because this process is NOT easy. what i did to cheer myself up was to go to the before and after pictures and see ALL the people who have struggled (because we all have) and see them looking so much better! tcbeau 0 Posted October 6, 2008 the band is only a tool, if you are not willing to change your eating habits, you will not lose weight. I believe that some people think that this is something magic. You will gain weight if you do not eat the correct things, or lose very slowly. You have to be willing to do all the hard work. I had my band 8/26, and have lost 27 lbs so far, but it has been hard work! Good luck to you in your search.
Shamrockgirl60 1 Posted October 6, 2008 Don't be scared everyone has different stories and we sometimes get down about it. So far it's the best thing I have ever done. Losing at a nice steady pace and feeling great.
*slim* 2 Posted October 6, 2008 You just need to keep it in perspective. Everyone's weight loss is going to be different. There are people that know that this is hard work and are following their doctor's instructions to the letter and still aren't losing weight. It doesn't mean that they won't lose weight, it just means that their experience is going to be different. We didn't put the weight on overnight, so we can't expect it to drop off overnight. krtork 0 Posted October 6, 2008 Everybody will lose weight at different rates. I feel fortunate, I have been losing a steady amount since surgery. Right now I am down 27 lbs post-surgery, with another 20 gone pre-surgery. I am almost at the 50lb mark and really excited. I have also lost inches - 5 from the hip, 3 from the waist and 2 in the bust. I am down 2 clothing sizes and a bra size. I am exercising and feel better than I have in years! It has not been easy, but I really want to make the change and get rid of the weight for good! You can do this. I thought I would get the surgery and never lose weight, I think it is a common thought pre-surgery. Follow your docs instructions and it will happen for you too! Good luck! jazma 16 Posted October 6, 2008 I had surgery on Aug 28th after 5 weeks of a pre surgery liquid diet I thought I would never get to have surgery. I kept an open mind and remembered the band is a tool to loose weight not a magic button. The post here don't tell what people eat (who don't loose weight). If they dont follow the rules they may not loose weight. It didn't take a few weeks to gain all our weight and become obese so it will take work and dedication using the band as a tool to loose weight. hang in there and look at the positiveness of the band and ignore negative comments(post) and focus on your goals... Best of luck to you
