Hi Julie,

Fellow Navy here...my hubby served 21 years and retired almost 8 years ago. I'm scheduled to be banded Nov 17th and am very excited.

I've put myself on a pre-surgery diet - after reading through this site and a couple of books on LB surgery, I want to do my surgeon a favor and try to shrink my liver, plus lose a few more pounds. I think anything I can do to make his job easier is a good thing.

I'm already down 10, hoping for another 10 before surgery in 2 weeks. I am doing two Protein shakes plus one sensible / normal meal per day. I'm using fruit for Snacks. My Protein Shakes have 35g of Protein per can, so I'm going to continue with them after I'm banded as well.

Like you, I DO want to eat...I'm going to try to keep my hands busy and incorporate some walking to help quell the hunger pangs and the "head hunger".

Good luck on your pre-surgery work, and I know you'll be successful!

Hello Everyone,

I'm one of the (seemingly) few guys around here.

I'm getting banded Nov 12th. Yep, found this forum a short 3 days before I'm getting banded. I'll be seeing Dr. Mun, at Brigham and Women's Hospital here in Boston. Surgery is being covered by insurance 100%, minus a small program fee to cover program supplies and office visits not covered by insurance.

I currently live just north of Boston, with my gorgeous wife and 1 year old puppy named Baxter. My wife was banded about 6 months ago, so I'm pretty familiar with the process, as I've seen it all 1st hand, from pre-op through recovery, including the lifestyle changes needed to make this work.

I'm 28 years old, 6'1" and currently around 335lbs. My pre-surgery diet has brought me there from 355lbs. I have very good blood pressure, cholesterol, and I'm in good general health, but with a BMI of ~46, I know that won't last. I've been heavy all my life, despite a moderately active lifestyle. I've had some success with weight loss in the past, losing upwards of 75lbs, but never managed to keep it off. I'm very ready to have a permanant tool to help me really turn my life around.

I guess I just wanted to say hi, and let people know that if they have any questions, I can try to answer them as best I can, as I've seen the whole process once, and I'm 1/2 way through it a 2nd time now.

Best of luck all!

-Valyrian

Hello everyone! My name is Heather, but since we have another Heather already please just call me Kasey (my pen name). I work as a paralegal in a large law firm by day, and am a wife, mother of a toddler, and a writer by night. I just recently sold my first book around the same time I got the insurance approval for my lap band surgery, so this year has started out fantastically!

I love my two kitty cats and reading, writing, playing computer games, scrapbooking, and playing softball. I am looking forward to getting back into better shape so I can play softball and start doing Tae Bo again (love it!). I was a chubby baby, a slender little girl, and then my weight problems started at puberty. Still, I was at a fairly decent size (though of course I thought I was huge!) all through high school, and even through college. Not too long after that, though, I really started packing on the weight.

I lost about fifty pounds in my early twenties and was feeling great, but then I had a busy, stressful year and put back on that weight, then got pregnant and put on a lot more. Of course now that I am in my early thirties the weight has proven a lot more stubborn about coming off which is what eventually lead me to choosing the lap band surgery after seeing a co-worker have great success with it.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I'm Karen. I've married, 23 years and have 4 kids - 15, 17, 20 and 23. I was thin until my second pregancy and just kept gaining slowly over the years.

I'm an accountant and my husband is in the military so we've lived in a lot of places, but we are going to stay here in Texas.

I love cats and we have 3. I also enjoy scrapbooking, woodworking and home renovating.

My surgery is on Nov 13th and I'm getting more nervous by the minute. I wish everyone the best of luck with your pre/post op diets and surgery.

I love reading about your lives and really look forward to getting to know you!

My name is Sheri. I am 38 years old, divorced but living with the love of my life now for the past year and a half after a long distance relationship for five years before that.

I have three sons. Nick is going to be 14 next month and Alex is 10. My oldest son Joseph died not quite two years ago after an 18 month battle with leukemia. He's the inspiration for a lot of the changes I am making in my life. He was 13 at the time of his death and would be 15 now.

I have been obese since being pregnant with Joseph 16 years ago. Prior to that I was always on the high end of normal. I was a tiny little thing until I hit puberty and then God decided apparently that I need an ass. A really big one. :rolleyes2:

I have been successful in losing weight on my own with Atkins, but have found since Joseph's illness and death that I have been gradually gaining back. I like eating low carb, so I am optimistic that this is going to be a good tool to help me during the times when I am feeling lazy about the kinds and amounts of food I eat. I have been researching the band for years and years but just now decided to bite the bullet and do it. I will be paying cash. Surgery is scheduled for November 21st and my pre-op diet starts on the 7th.

I have already been doing half days of liquids only here and there, working on not drinking with meals and I have given up all carbonated beverages and weaned myself off caffeine.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

I don't know why but your post brought me to tears. I think what you are doing is awesome........and I hope you know he is looking down on you........

I haven't lost a child, but I worked with a awesome woman, and i got to be close with her. Well Sadly her Daughter passed away after a short battle with a brain cancer. Her name was Lara, well My daughters name, is Lara and it was after her daughter. I don't know why I felt compelled to share this, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone in your weight loss battle.

I am so glad to have found this place, and so happy that we all have this bond over our special week! We are all being rebirthed......... We have a smaller person who wants to be on the outside, and they will!

Keri

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
