Hi, sorry you are feeling so down. I'm sure you are not really going crazy. Having the band does mean that you have to find ways to deal with your emotions other than food. That is the real challenge. There are psychologist that specialise in weight loss issues - perhaps your surgeon can recommend someone you can talk to? Also, look for a support group in your local area - I know the clinic I was banded through runs one.

Feel better soon

I was banded on 9/30 as well. I was lucky because my daughter had it done five days before me so I was able to see what to expect. Has anyone taken care of you since your banding? You need a lot of TLC until you are back on your feet. Also, get out of the house if you already havn't. It is good to get your mind off things. I live in NH and the leaves are beautiful now. Have your hubby or a friend take you for a ride or a quick visit to one of your favorite stores. Do you have all the right food and drink at home? I am able to eat yogurt, cottage cheese even had some goldfish yesterday. (just a few) I actually sucked on them until they turned to mush. I wilsh I could help you more. You are NOT going crazy. You have just been through a lot. My daughter had a day where she was teary because of the lack of food but after seeing her Dr., he told her that in just a few weeks, she will be eating normal again, just smaller portoins. He even said I could have a slice of pizza and one beer once in a while. It's not the end of the world, it's a new beginning. Good Luck.

You are not going crazy. Many, many people have these ultra sensitive emotions right after being banded. Take it a little bit at a time. Journal your feelings to get them out. Give yourself permission to feel them...it's really ok! But, if you can, give yourself a time limit to feel them. In other words, don't let them take over. Over the next few weeks, you will most likely feel better gradually. Your body has undergone a trauma with surgery, but your emotions are going through an even bigger trauma as you are making so many drastic changes. Hang in there!

Just remember this, it's only food, and you WILL be able to eat again. A friend had the surgery before me (Aug. 29th, ) and I had her mantra in my head. "You WILL be able to eat again." I'm down 30 lbs and going for my first fill next week. Soooo, chin up, it's only food! If your husband is eating Big Mac's in front of you, remove yourself from that situation. Clean house, walk outside, go shopping, do anything but sit and gawk at his Calorific Mc Donald's attack. It can't do ya any good. Best of luck, we've all been there one time or another.

I was also banded on the 3oth and have been so emotional. I even started a thread yesterday called so emotional. I have cried and just been having a terrible time. I'm sorry you are going through this but you are not alone. I hope you and I both feel better soon.

I was also having trouble with the Protein Shakes but my husband got me some chocolate whey Protein Powder from GNC and it has 20 grams per serving. It says mix with Water but I add 1 cup skim milk and put it in a blender with some ice cubes and it has really helped. I also added 1TBS creamy p-nut butter and it was hard to beleive I was actually drinking a Protein Shake. I hope that helps.

listen i was banded on the 9/29 and freaked out much like you. in fact my fat and on a diet husband ate 2 sausage egg mcmuffins in front of me today and ive been angry ever since. i cried all the first week... go to unjury.com and order the vanilla... or try the Atkins shakes... you just have to choke them down until you eat normal food again... hang in there... you will make it in just a couple weeks!!

....i agree i was in more pain than after childbirth... however if you have been vomitting your protien drinks you need to call your dr.

:sad:I was banded Oct. 3, 2008. Today I started feeling emotional. I had not lost anything since my surgery. I have done everything I was suppose to and still nothing. Oh, I lost a few pounds on day three, but I found them again plus a few. I am not hungry so that's not a problem. I was feeling sooooo good yesterday but today it is completely the opposite. I can't imagine not losing anything when I'm not really eating anything. I have my Protein Shakes and I mix the "protein bullet" with my Water. I drink plenty of water and nothing. Also, I feel good in the mornings, but by late afternoon or evening I start having gas again. Maybe I am expecting too much too soon. I don't have my post op appointment until 10-16-08. Even if I called my doctor, that would I say, "I'm sad because I am not losing any weight"? I think this is why I didn't want to tell a lot of people that I was getting the lab band. What if it doesn't work?

Enough whining. I'm sure everyone has issues.

Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.

just wondering... were you doing Clear Liquids all this past week?? aside from your Protein Drinks? ? and also did you lose much weight during your pre-op diet?? i really think you should call your dr's office and ask for some advice on monday...

...i know that weight loss during this healing period is supposed to be seen as a bonus... so you have to consider that... also... if you already lost some weight pre-op maybe this is your stalling period... you shouldnt be worrying too much about the weightloss right now... i lost 13lbs the first week... however i only had to do the preop diet for 5 days on which i lost nothing... so consider the differences in bodies...

....though the Peanut Butter maybe helping you choke down your Protein drinks right now... (and you really do need the protein)... peanut butter has a decent amount of fat...especially if you are scooping it in to your drinks all day long... you should really see what your nutrionist has to offer in terms of help...

....... and just to remind you how different everyone is... during my first week... it took me 2 hours to finish a protein drink... there is no way i could have tolerated peanut butter... even water was hard to drink...

.........dont be afraid to make the call to your dr....they gave you the tool... they can help you use it best...

Yes, I lost 16 lbs during my 2 week pre-op diet. I think that's why I don't understand why I'm not losing more now. I don't use Peanut Butter in my Protein Shakes. I use 6 oz. of soy milk, 1/2 teaspoon of General Foods International coffee, sugar free/decaf and two scoops of EAS vanilla Protein powder. It really is not bad. It tastes almost like iced coffee.

My doctor had me on clear liquids for the first 4 days, and then to full liquids.

I think I'll do as you suggested. I'll call the doctor's office on Monday. I just don't want to be a nuisance. I know some people call the doctor's office everytime they sneeze.

Thanks for the support. Sometimes just venting helps.

I had a complete melt down yesterday and even walked into my mom's practically in hysterics. I was banded Sept 30. I think we are dealing with a lot of changes all at once. Today I felt much better. You will too I bet!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
